Nadje Noordhuis
Nadje Noordhuis is an Australian trumpeter, composer and educator based in New York. Noordhuis is from Sydney, Australia where she attended The Forest High School. She briefly studied sound engineering before moving to Melbourne to study trumpet and improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts. She then travelled to New York where she completed her master's degree at Manhattan School of Music. She runs music label Little Mystery Records. In 2007 Noordhuis was a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trumpet Competition. She was then selected as a Carnegie Hall Young Artist in 2010, where she studied with Dave Douglas. She has collaborated with Geoffrey Keezer, Maria Schnieder Jazz Orchestra and Arooj Aftab. As a composer, she has also been commissioned by Sara Caswell, ThoroughBass, ExhAust, the Festival of New Trumpet Music. Luke Howard (musician)
Luke Howard is an Australian composer and pianist. A piano student growing up in Melbourne, he was encouraged to develop his first improvisations by his piano teacher, Nehama Patkin. Later he studied at the Victorian College of the Arts. His album ''The Sand That Ate The Sea'' saw him nominated for ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack, Cast or Show Album at the ARIA Music Awards of 2019. It is the soundtrack to a film by Matthew Thorne that looks at the opal mining town Andamooka, South Australia. Darcy James Argue
Darcy James Argue is a jazz composer and bandleader known for his work with his 18-piece ensemble, Secret Society. Biography Argue was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He studied at McGill University in Montreal from 1993–1998, and in 2000 he moved to the U.S. to study composition at New England Conservatory of Music with jazz composer Bob Brookmeyer. Following his studies at New England Conservatory, Argue moved to Brooklyn in 2003. Secret Society In 2005, Argue founded Darcy James Argue's Secret Society, an 18-piece big band. In 2009, they released their first studio album, ''Infernal Machines'', on New Amsterdam Records, an independent record label in New York City. Anat Cohen ( he, ענת כהן, born 1975) is a New York City-based jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, and bandleader from Tel Aviv, Israel. Biography Cohen began playing clarinet and saxophone. In 1996, she studied at the Berklee College of Music. She has also recorded with her brothers Avishai Cohen (trumpeter) and Yuval Cohen (alto and soprano saxophonist). Her debut album, ''Place & Time'', featuring Jason Lindner, Ben Street, Jeff Ballard, and Avishai Cohen, was released in 2005 on Anzic Records. The Festival of New Trumpet Music (FONT Music) is a nonprofit organization founded by jazz trumpeter Dave Douglas to encourage aspiring trumpeters. The annual festival consists of concerts and workshops over a two to three week period in New York City in September. FONT also gives an Award of Recognition to a distinguished trumpeter who has made an important contribution to the instrument.
