Nadine Scotland
Nadine Scotland (born October 4, 1990 as Nadine Chyz) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. Career Scotland's first breakout event was at the 2011 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, where she represented Team Alberta. She skipped the team to an 11–1 round robin record before losing the final to Saskatchewan's Trish Paulsen. She also skipped the team in 2010 at the 2010 Canadian Junior Curling Championships where they lost in the tiebreaker. When she was just 16, she skipped Alberta to a 3–3 record at the 2007 Canada Winter Games. She was the alternate for the Canadian team skipped by Jocelyn Peterman at the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships where they also lost in the tiebreaker. Scotland won her first World Curling Tour event in 2013 at the Spruce Grove Cashspiel as third for Amy Nixon. Taylor McDonald
Taylor Rae McDonald (born May 12, 1993) is a Canadian curler from Edmonton. She currently plays lead on Team Casey Scheidegger. McDonald previously played second for Team Laura Walker and Team Kelsey Rocque, with whom she won gold at the 2014 World Junior Curling Championships and the 2017 Winter Universiade. Career Juniors McDonald began her junior curling career in the 2011–12 season on Team Kelsey Rocque. In 2014, her team of Rocque, third Keely Brown, lead Claire Tully and coach Amanda-Dawn Coderre won the 2014 Alberta Junior Curling Championship with a 6–5 win over 2012 Canadian Junior champion Jocelyn Peterman in the final. This earned them the right to represent Alberta at the 2014 Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Amy Nixon
Amy Lee Nixon (born September 29, 1977) is a Canadian retired curler and lawyer from Calgary, Alberta. She was a member of the bronze medal-winning 2006 Winter Olympic women's curling team, skipped by Shannon Kleibrink. Nixon was also the chair of the board of governors of Curling Canada from 2021 to 2022. Curling career Nixon began curling competitively at fourteen. Her first notable success was being a gold medal-winning skip at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in 1994, which she followed up with a 10th-place finish at the 1995 Canada Games. She would later move to Alberta, where she was the runner-up at the 1998 provincial junior championship, losing the Alberta final to Bronwen Saunders. Nixon was a member of the Shannon Kleibrink mixed curling team that represented Alberta at the 2003 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials
The 2017 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials (branded as the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings for sponsorship reasons) were held from December 2 to 10 at the Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ottawa, Ontario. The winners of the men's and women's events would represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The women's final was won by Team Rachel Homan in front of her home town crowd. She defeated Team Chelsea Carey 6–5, after Carey missed a pivotal double takeout on her last shot of the 10th end. The men's final was won by Team Kevin Koe from Alberta. He defeated Team Mike McEwen 7–6, drawing to the button for one on the last stone of the 10th end. Laura Walker (curler)
Laura Walker (born November 19, 1990 as Laura Crocker) is a Canadian curler from Edmonton, Alberta. She is a two-time Canadian University champion, a national junior champion, world junior silver medallist and world mixed doubles bronze medallist. Walker is originally from Scarborough, Ontario. Career Juniors Walker began her junior curling career as a skip. In 2008, her Scarboro Golf & Country Club rink made it to the Pepsi Ontario Junior Curling Championships, provincial junior championships where her team finished with a 2–5 record. In 2010, Walker was invited to join the Rachel Homan junior rink at the second position. The team's regular second, Alison Kreviazuk, was too old to play in juniors that season (but played with the team in World Curling Tour events). 2017 Alberta Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2017 Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Alberta's provincial women's curling championship, was held from January 25 to 29 at the St. Albert Curling Club in St. Albert, Alberta. The winning Shannon Kleibrink team represented Alberta at the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in St. Catharines. The 2006 Winter Olympics bronze medallist Shannon Kleibrink and her Okotoks, Alberta-based team never trailed in the final game against Val Sweeting. It was Kleibrink's fifth career provincial championship, but the first for her teammates. Kleibrink had missed a few games due to a back injury following a routine work-out session and was replaced by two-time Scotties champion Heather Nedohin. The Curl Mesabi Classic (previously known as the Curl Mesabi Cash Spiel (2007, 2010-2011), Iron Trail Motors Shoot-Out @ Curl Mesabi (2012) and the Super One Shoot-out @ Curl Mesabi (2008)) is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, that takes place at Curl Mesabi's venue, the Range Recreation and Civic Center, in Eveleth, Minnesota. The tournament is held in a round-robin format. The men's tournament, started c. 2003, and joined the World Curling Tour in 2007. Women were allowed to participate in the men's tournament until 2011, when a separate women's tournament was created. The women's event was not held in 2013. Red Deer Curling Classic
The Prism Flow Red Deer Curling Classic is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, that takes place at the Red Deer Curling Club in Red Deer, Alberta. The tournament is held in a triple-knockout format. The men's tournament started in 1992 as a skins tournament. The women's tournament started in 1999 as a separate event held a few weeks earlier and merged with the men's event in 2007. The event was held as a World Curling Tour event until 2019 and has been held nearly every year since 2007. Curlers from Alberta have dominated the event on both sides since its inception. The event counts toward the Canadian Team Ranking System, which hands out points based on performances at CTRS events and deals with qualification to the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. The Crestwood Ladies Fall Classic was an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament, that took place at the Crestwood Curling Club in Edmonton, Alberta. It was established in 2014 and ran until 2018, when it was discontinued. The event was held in a round robin format. Through its five editions, the event featured mainly Albertan teams, however, only two of the winning teams were from there. Heather Rogers
Heather Rogers KC (3 June 1959 – 18 October 2023) was an English barrister known for her specialisation in media law. She died from a pulmonary embolism at age 64.
