Nacional Futebol Clube, commonly referred to as Nacional, is a Brazilian professional club based in Manaus, Amazonas founded on 13 January 1913. It competes in the Campeonato Amazonense, the top flight of the Amazonas state football league. Nacional is currently ranked fourth among Amazonas teams in CBF's national club ranking, at 183rd place overall. History On January 13, 1913, Nacional Futebol Clube was founded. The club was initially named Eleven Nacional. On February 8, 1914, Nacional played the first Campeonato Amazonense match, against Manaós Sporting. On July 8, 1930, Nacional Futebol Clube former members who were dissatisfied with the club founded Nacional Fast Clube. In 1975, Nacional finished in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A's 16th position, ahead of clubs such as Vasco da Gama, Atlético Mineiro and Santos. Arena da Amazônia (''Amazon Arena'') is a football stadium in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil, located on the former site of the Vivaldão stadium. The stadium has an all-seater capacity of 44,300 and was constructed from 2010 to 2014 as part of Brazil's hosting of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It hosted matches of the football tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics. During the World Cup, the arena had a limited maximum-capacity of 40,549. Design and construction Built on the site of the old Vivaldo Lima stadium, the Arena da Amazônia is located midway between Manaus International Airport and the historic center of the city. The 2012 Campeonato Amazonense de Futebol was the 96th season of the top professional football league in Amazonas, Brazil. The competition began on January 28 and ended on May 26. Nacional won the championship for the 41st time, while CDC Manicoré and Operário were relegated. Format The tournament consists of a double round-robin format, in which all twelve teams play each other twice, with classification split in two stages. Each round counts as one stage. The four better-placed teams of each stage will face themselves in playoffs matches, and the first stage champion will face the second stage champion.
