Charlie Cook (wrestler)
Charlie Cook was an American professional wrestler who competed in Southeastern regional promotions such as Mid-South Wrestling, Georgia Championship Wrestling and Florida Championship Wrestling as well as the National Wrestling Alliance during the 1970s and 1980s. On August 11, 1981, Cook was placed in a match as a substitute for Jack Brisco. He defeated Dory Funk, Jr. to win the NWA Florida Heavyweight Championship. He dropped the title to Funk the following month. After regaining the belt, he later lost the title to The Spoiler. The following year, he held the WWC Caribbean Heavyweight Championship but dropped it to Abdullah the Butcher. Cook was voted second runner up for ''Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Most Improved Wrestler of the Year award in 1981. Charlie Cook died January 8, 2020. The Universal Wrestling Federation was a 1986 re-branding of wrestler-turned-owner Bill Watts' Mid-South Wrestling promotion. Watts' goal was to elevate his promotion from a relatively smaller, regional-level business, to a national-level rival of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now known as WWE). However, Watts' business strategy quickly swung from "overnight" success to catastrophic failure, resulting in the 1987 sale of the UWF to another rival: Jim Crockett Promotions (owner of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling, Georgia Championship Wrestling, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA)'s most important championships, and the predecessor of World Championship Wrestling). A house show or live event is a professional wrestling event produced by a major promotion that is not televised, though they can be recorded. Promotions use house shows mainly to cash in on the exposure that they and their wrestlers receive during televised events, as well as to test reactions to matches, wrestlers, and gimmicks that are being considered for the main televised programming and upcoming pay-per-views. House shows are entire events and not the same as dark matches—untelevised matches that occur as part of an event that was already being televised. A vacated judgment (also known as vacatur relief) makes a previous legal judgment legally void. A vacated judgment is usually the result of the judgment of an appellate court, which overturns, reverses, or sets aside the judgment of a lower court. Bill Watts
William F. Watts Jr. (born May 5, 1939) is a retired American professional wrestler, promoter and former American football player. Watts garnered fame under his "Cowboy" gimmick in his wrestling career, and then as a promoter in the Mid-South United States, which grew to become the Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF). In 1992, Watts was the Executive Vice President of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) but after clashes with management over a number of issues, as well as feeling pressure from Hank Aaron over a racially insensitive interview, he resigned. He was subsequently replaced by Ole Anderson. In 1995, Watts briefly worked as a booker for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). In 2009, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
