NSW Legislative Assembly
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House, Sydney, Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by Constituency, single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the Optional Preferential Voting, optional Instant-runoff voting, preferential system. Members of the Legislative Assembly have the post-nominals Member of the Legislative Assembly#Australia, MP after their names. From the creation of the assembly up to about 1990, the post-nominals "MLA" (Member of the Legislative Assembly) were used. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Greg Piper
Gregory Michael Piper (born 31 August 1957 in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales), an Australian politician, is the independent member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Lake Macquarie since 2007. Piper also served as Mayor of City of Lake Macquarie between 2004 and 2012, prior to the enactment of the preventing dual membership of state parliament and local council. Early years and background Piper grew up in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Kahibah. He has three children and five grandchildren. In his teenage years, he attended St Pius X high school in Adamstown. Tania Mihailuk
Tania Mihailuk is an Australian politician who served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, representing Bankstown from 2011 to 2023, as a member of the Labor Party, and later as a member of One Nation from October 2022 to March 2023. She is running for the Legislative Council on the One Nation ticket in 2023. Mihailuk became the first woman to represent Bankstown in its 80-plus-year history. She previously served as mayor of the City of Bankstown, a position she held from 2006 to 2012. Wagga Wagga is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. The district has been held by MP Joe McGirr since the September 2018 by-election. Wagga Wagga is a regional electorate. It entirely covers two local government areas: the City of Wagga Wagga and Lockhart Shire. Joe McGirr
Joseph Gregory McGirr (born 19 June 1960) is an independent politician, and a physician and former associate dean of the University of Notre Dame Australia. He has been the member for Wagga Wagga in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly since the 2018 by-election. ABC News declared him the winner on 9 September, the day after the election, with the New South Wales Electoral Commission confirming it on 14 September. He came second to the Liberal candidate by only 28 votes after the Liberal primary vote almost halved from 2015, and was elected on Labor preferences. Alexander Hart Greenwich (born 28 November 1980) is the member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, representing the seat of Sydney since the 2012 Sydney by-election. He ran as an independent and was backed by his predecessor, independent Clover Moore. Orange is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is a regional electorate that covers four local government areas in their entirety: the City of Orange, Cabonne Council, Parkes Shire and Forbes Shire.
