Murray (The Murray until 1910) is an electoral district in the Australian state of New South Wales. Murray is a regional electorate lying in the southwestern corner of the state. It encompasses several local government areas, namely Wentworth Shire, Balranald Shire, Carrathool Shire, the City of Griffith, Leeton Shire, Hay Shire, Murrumbidgee Shire, Murray River Council, Edward River Council and Berrigan Shire. History Murray was a single-member electorate from 1859 to 1880, returning two members from 1880 to 1894, returning to a single member electorate from 1894 to 1920. The district created in 1859 included the districts surrounding the towns of Deniliquin, Moama and Moulamein. Helen Dalton
Helen Jennifer Dalton is an Australian politician. She has been a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly since March 2019, representing the electoral district of Murray as an independent. Since her election, Dalton has been a vocal critic of NSW Government corruption, water mismanagement and under-funding of rural hospitals, mental health services and infrastructure. She has frequently clashed with government MPs in NSW Parliament, notably Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Water Minister Melinda Pavey, who has labelled Dalton a "disgrace". Moulamein is a small town in New South Wales, Australia, in the Murray River Council local government area. At the , Moulamein had a population of 484 . Moulamein is the oldest town in the Riverina. The town is located between Balranald, Hay, Deniliquin and Swan Hill, at the junction of the Edward River and Billabong Creek. The name Moulamein is derived from a local Aboriginal word meaning "the meeting of the waters". The climate of this area is semi-arid, and the area is rich in birdlife such as waterfowl, wedge-tailed eagles and emus. This area also has many kangaroos. Wagga Wagga is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. The district has been held by MP Joe McGirr since the September 2018 by-election. Wagga Wagga is a regional electorate. It entirely covers two local government areas: the City of Wagga Wagga and Lockhart Shire. Corowa was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of the Australian state of New South Wales, taking its name from town of Corowa on the Murray River. History The district was created in the 1904 re-distribution of electorates following the 1903 New South Wales referendum, which required the number of members of the Legislative Assembly to be reduced from 125 to 90. It consisted of parts of Albury, The Murray and the abolished seat of The Hume. It moved west in 1913, absorbing the eastern part of the abolished district of Deniliquin and losing its eastern part to the districts of Albury and Wagga Wagga. Francis Arthur "Old Frank" Byrne (1837 – 30 June 1923) was Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the electoral district of Hay 1898–1903. Early life He was born in Singleton, New South Wales to Peter Byrne, a miner, and Sarah , and had a very limited education. James George Carroll (1855 – 13 July 1927) was an Australian politician. Born in Tipperary, Ireland, to James and Katherine Carroll, he arrived in Australia in 1867 having received a primary education. He worked as a saddler in Hillston from 1876 until 1883, when he became the licensee of Tattersall's Hotel. He married Lizzie Sweetman, with whom he had two children. Robert Scobie (Australian Politician Born 1848)
Robert Scobie (1848 – 15 August 1917) was an Australian politician, elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. He was born in Glasgow to Robert Scobie and Margaret Orr. On 24 December 1872 he married Elizabeth Farris, with whom he had nine children. Scobie and his young family left Scotland for Bombay where he managed a saddlery and leather business. They arrived in New South Wales around 1878 and settled in Menindee, where he opened a saddlery business. Scobie was a Labor Party candidate for Wentworth but was unsuccessful in 1894, 1895, and 1898, before winning the seat in 1901. Lachlan was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. During the first two Parliaments (1856–1859), there was an electorate in the same area called Lachlan and Lower Darling, named after the Lachlan and Darling Rivers. Electoral District Of Wentworth
Wentworth was an electoral district for the Legislative Assembly in the far south west of the Australian state of New South Wales and named after and including the town of Wentworth. It established in 1880 and partly replacing Lachlan. From 1885 until 1889 it elected two members. The population in Wentworth had grown significantly since the 1880 redistribution, especially as a result of the growth of mining at Broken Hill, with the electoral roll growing from 1,901 in 1880 to 5,617 in 1887. Under the formula for seats, Wentworth was due to return 3 members, however because of the large area covered by the district, in 1889 it was split into 3, Wentworth, Sturt and Wilcannia. Wentworth retained the eponymous town, along with the towns of Menindie and Pooncaira.
