NQEA Pty Ltd is an engineering and shipbuilding company based in Cairns, Australia. The company was founded in 1948 as an engineering supply company named North Queensland Engineers & Agents, then expanded in 1966 into shipbuilding and was renamed. NQEA has built several ships for the Royal Australian Navy (including the ''Fremantle''-class patrol boats and ''Leeuwin''-class survey ships). The company was contracted to build modules to form the hulls of the ''Hobart''-class air warfare destroyer project in May 2009, but lost the contract a month later to BAE Systems Australia after admissions that an internal restructuring may lead to difficulties meeting the contracted obligations. Hobart-class Destroyer
The ''Hobart'' class is a ship class of three air warfare destroyers (AWDs) built for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Planning for ships to replace the ''Adelaide''-class frigates and restore the capability last exhibited by the ''Perth''-class destroyers began by 2000, initially under acquisition project SEA 1400, which was re-designated SEA 4000. Thames Clippers (since July 2020 branded as Uber Boat by Thames Clippers for sponsorship purposes with Uber) is a London River Services, river bus service on the River Thames, Thames in London, England. The company operates both commuter services between eastern and Central London and tourist services under licence from London River Services. Fremantle-class Patrol Boat
The ''Fremantle''-class patrol boats were coastal patrol vessels operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) from 1979 to 2007. Designed by British shipbuilder Brooke Marine and constructed in Australia by NQEA, the ''Fremantle'' class were larger, more powerful, and more capable than the preceding , and the two primary patrol boat bases required infrastructure upgrades to support them. Although up to 30 vessels were planned, fifteen were ordered and constructed, with an unexercised option for five more. Their retirement was announced in 2001 and a decommissioning schedule published in 2004. The ''Leeuwin'' class is a two-ship class of hydrographic survey vessels operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). and were ordered from NQEA Australia in 1996, and were commissioned in 2000. Sydney RiverCats
The Sydney RiverCats are a class of catamarans operated by Transdev Sydney Ferries on the Parramatta River. History Between 1992 and 1995, the State Transit Authority purchased seven RiverCats from NQEA Australia, Cairns to operate Parramatta River services. They replaced First Fleet class ferries on the Circular Quay to Meadowbank service, as well as allowing services to be extended to Parramatta wharf from 1993. They were named after famous Australian female athletes.
