NPfIT
The NHS Connecting for Health (CFH) agency was part of the UK Department of Health and was formed on 1 April 2005, having replaced the former NHS Information Authority. It was part of the Department of Health Informatics Directorate, with the role to maintain and develop the NHS national IT infrastructure. It adopted the responsibility of delivering the NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT), an initiative by the Department of Health to move the National Health Service (NHS) in England towards a single, centrally-mandated electronic care record for patients and to connect 30,000 general practitioners to 300 hospitals, providing secure and audited access to these records by authorised health professionals. Lorenzo Patient Record Systems
Lorenzo patient record systems are a type of Electronic health record provided by DXC Technology, originally as part of the United Kingdom government’s National Programme for IT (NHS Connecting for Health) in the NHS. There is a long history of negotiations between the NHS and the company. On 4 September 2012, the UK Department of Health announced that whilst it was "dismantling" the National Programme for IT, Lorenzo would be supplied under a new legally binding agreement with DXC. University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust was the first to deploy the technology. It implemented electronic patient record system Lorenzo Release 1.9 in June 2010. Richard Granger
Richard Granger (born c.1965) is a British management consultant and former UK civil servant who was Director General for the NHS's information technology project, Connecting for Health. Early career Granger worked for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and in the oil industry. After Andersen he became a partner at Deloitte Consulting. At Deloitte he was responsible for procurement and delivery of a number of large scale IT programmes, including the Congestion Charging Scheme for London. NHS In 2002 Granger was appointed Director General of Information at the National Health Service, with responsibility for the NHS IT centralisation scheme, NPfIT (National Programme for IT), later rebadged as NHS Connecting for Health or CfH. Ian Sommerville (academic)
Ian F. Sommerville, (born 23 February 1951) is a British academic. He is the author of a popular student textbook on software engineering, as well as a number of other books and papers. He worked as a professor of software engineering at the University of St Andrews in Scotland until 2014 and is a prominent researcher in the field of systems engineering, system dependability and social informatics, being an early advocate of an interdisciplinary approach to system dependability. The NHS Information Authority (NHSIA) was part of the United Kingdom, UK National Health Service (NHS). It was established as a NHS special health authority by an Act of Parliament in April 1999. The National Health Service (NHS) is the Publicly funded health care, publicly funded healthcare system in England, and one of the four National Health Service systems in the United Kingdom. The King's Fund is an independent think tank, which is involved with work relating to the health system in England. It organises conferences and other events. Since 1997, they have jointly funded a yearly award system with GlaxoSmithKline. They reward small to medium-sized health charities who are improving people's health. Cost Overrun
A cost overrun, also known as a cost increase or budget overrun, involves unexpected incurred costs. When these costs are in excess of budgeted amounts due to a value engineering underestimation of the actual cost during budgeting, they are known by these terms. Cost overruns are common in infrastructure, building, and technology projects. For IT projects, a 2004 industry study by the Standish Group found an average cost overrun of 43 percent; 71 percent of projects came in over budget, exceeded time estimates, and had estimated too narrow a scope; and total waste was estimated at $55 billion per year in the US alone.
