NHS Improvement
NHS Improvement (NHSI) was a non-departmental body in England, responsible for overseeing the National Health Service's foundation trusts and NHS trusts, as well as independent providers that provide NHS-funded care. It supported providers to give patients consistently safe, high quality, compassionate care within local health systems that are financially sustainable. A previous body – also called NHS Improvement – was set up in April 2008 to drive clinical service improvement, but was merged into NHS Improving Quality in 2013 following the Health and Social Care Act reforms. From 1 April 2016, NHS Improvement was the operational name for an organisation that brought together Monitor, NHS Trust Development Authority, Patient Safety (from NHS England), National Reporting and Learning System, Advancing Change Team and Intensive Support Teams. Non-departmental Public Body
In the United Kingdom, non-departmental public body (NDPB) is a classification applied by the Cabinet Office, Treasury, the Scottish Government and the Northern Ireland Executive to public sector organisations that have a role in the process of national government but are not part of a government department. NDPBs carry out their work largely independently from ministers and are accountable to the public through Parliament; however, ministers are responsible for the independence, effectiveness and efficiency of non-departmental public bodies in their portfolio. The term includes the four types of NDPB (executive, advisory, tribunal and independent monitoring boards) but excludes public corporations and public broadcasters (BBC, Channel 4 and S4C). Ruth May (nurse)
Dame Ruth Rosemarie Beverley, (born 1 June 1967), known professionally as Ruth May, is a British nurse. Since 2019, she has served as the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for England and an executive/national director at NHS England and NHS Improvement where she is also the national director responsible for infection prevention and control. Career May began her career with a variety of nursing roles before becoming a theatre sister at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey. She was subsequently acting Director of Nursing at Barnet Hospital in London before being appointed the substantive Director of Nursing and Deputy Chief Executive at Havering Primary Care Trust in North East London. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department of Health and Social Care of the United Kingdom. It was established in 2009 to regulate and inspect health and social care services in England. It was formed from three predecessor organisations: * the Healthcare Commission * the Commission for Social Care Inspection * the Mental Health Act Commission The CQC's stated role is to make sure that hospitals, care homes, dental and general practices and other care services in England provide people with safe, effective and high-quality care, and to encourage those providers to improve. David Behan
Sir David Behan (born November 1955) is a British public servant who is the current Chair of Health Education England and also Independent Non-Executive Chairman of HC-One. Career Behan began his career as a social worker, progressing as a manager in Wakefield, Avon and Cleveland. Patrick Robert Carter, Baron Carter of Coles (born 9 February 1946) was chairman of the review panel examining the future of NHS pathology (reported in 2016). He reviewed the procurement of legal aid in England and Wales (reported in 2006), and was chair of Sport England until September 2006. Sir Andrew Valentine Morris Hon FRCP (born October 1955) is a former British hospital administrator who is currently a non-executive director of NHS Improvement. Career He was until February 2018 the Chief Executive of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. His career within the English NHS spanned more than 40 years, joining as a hospital porter aged 19. Following stints in Leicester, Nottingham and Hereford, he was appointed unit general manager at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey in 1989. He became its first chief executive in 1991 and remained in post till his retirement in 2018, making him one of the longest-serving chief executives in the NHS. NHSX is a United Kingdom Government unit with responsibility for setting national policy and developing best practice for National Health Service (NHS) technology, digital and data, including data sharing and transparency. It was established in early 2019 by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, to bring together information technology teams from the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, and NHS Improvement.
