NC 62
North Carolina Highway 62 (NC 62) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Primarily in the Piedmont Triad, it runs from NC 109 in Thomasville northeast to the Virginia state line in Milton. Route description NC 62 begins in Thomasville at the intersection of Randolph Street ( NC 109) and Julian Avenue; it is from I-85 and shadows the Interstate from Thomasville to Archdale. East of Archdale, it overlaps with NC Bike Route 2 through the communities of Climax and Julian. Before the town of Alamance, the highway goes right through the middle of the Alamance Battleground (the area will be marked with several colored flags and monuments). After crossing I-40/I-85, NC 62 does a zig-zag through downtown Burlington. Thomasville, North Carolina
Thomasville is a city in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 27,183 at the 2020 census. The city was once notable for its furniture industry, as were its neighbors High Point and Lexington. This Piedmont Triad community was established in 1852 and hosts the state's oldest festival, "Everybody's Day". Built around the local railway system, Thomasville is home to the oldest railroad depot in the state, just a few hundred feet from the city's most notable landmark, "The Big Chair". Graham is a city in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Burlington, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census the population was 17,153. It is the county seat of Alamance County. History Graham was laid out in 1849 as the county seat of the newly formed Alamance County, and was incorporated as a town in 1851; it became a city in 1961. Liberty, North Carolina
Liberty is a town in Randolph County, North Carolina, United States. History Originally named Liberty Oak, the town was founded in 1809 near the plantation of John Leak. The first church within the town was the Liberty Christian Church (now the United Church of Christ) founded on October 11, 1884. The town's first school, the Liberty Academy, was founded on May 6, 1885, as a charter school, and helped to foster the town's early reputation as a place of higher learning. North Carolina Highway 70
North Carolina Highway 70 (NC 70) was one of the original state highways in the U.S. state of North Carolina running from the South Carolina state line to the Virginia state line north of Greensboro. NC 70 connected Greensboro, Aberdeen, and Fayetteville. Route description History North Carolina Highway 70 was an original state highway established in 1921. In 1925, NC 70 was rerouted to Lumberton, then down south to the South Carolina state line following today's NC 41. The part from Lumberton to Rowland became NC 22. In 1926, NC 70 was placed onto the current US 220 Alternate near Seagrove. In 1927, U.S. Route 170 (US 170) got the routing from Greensboro to the Virginia state line. Dan River
The Dan River flows in the U.S. states of North Carolina and Virginia. It rises in Patrick County, Virginia, and crosses the state border into Stokes County, North Carolina. It then flows into Rockingham County. From there it flows back into Virginia through Pittsylvania County before reentering North Carolina near the border between Caswell County and Rockingham County. It flows into northern Caswell County and then back into southern Virginia (briefly Pittsylvania County, then into Halifax County) and finally into Kerr Reservoir on the Roanoke River. The name of the river was first recorded by William Byrd II in 1728, during an expedition to survey the Virginia border, though Byrd did not explain the reason for the name. Alamance Battleground
Alamance Battleground is a North Carolina State Historic Site commemorating the Battle of Alamance. The historic site is located south of Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina in the United States. History The Battle of Alamance was fought in May 1771 as part of the War of the Regulation between the forces of Royal Governor William Tryon and a band of settlers from western North Carolina who were dissatisfied with the leadership provided by the royal governors.
