NCAA Men's Division I Outdoor Track And Field Championships
The NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship is an annual collegiate outdoor track and field competition for men organised by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Athlete's individual performances earn points for their institution and the team with the most points receives the NCAA team title in track and field. A separate NCAA Division I women's competition is also held. These two events are separate from the NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships and NCAA Division I Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships held during the winter. The first edition of the championship was held in 1921 and the competition expanded to two divisions in 1963, then three divisions in 1974. Tom Farrell (middle-distance Runner)
Thomas Francis Farrell (born January 18, 1944) represented the United States of America in two Olympic Games, in the 800 metres race. He placed fifth in Tokyo in 1964 and won the bronze medal in Mexico City in 1968. He attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, New York. After finishing high school Farrell enrolled at St. John's University in Jamaica, New York where he was coached by Steve Bartold. At the age of 19 Farrell placed fifth in the 800 metres race in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, behind winner and world record holder Peter Snell. Joaquim Carvalho Cruz (born March 12, 1963) is a Brazilian former middle-distance runner, winner of the 800 meters at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He is one of only five men to run the 800 metres in less than 1 minute, 42 seconds. Biography Cruz was born in Taguatinga, Distrito Federal. David Anthony Mack (born May 30, 1961) is a former professional runner and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer involved in the Rampart Division's Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) unit. He was one of the central figures in the LAPD Rampart police corruption scandal. Sammy Koskei
Sammy Koskei (born 14 May 1961) is a former Kenyan middle distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. Koskei was one of the best Kenyan 800m competitors in the 1980s, setting fast times, but lacked success at the international major championships. His breakthrough year was 1982 when the youngster broke 1:45 second barrier for the first time in his career. That same year he made 800m final at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, but finished a distant last. Donald J. Paige (born October 13, 1956) is an American retired middle-distance runner. Track career In 1979, while a student at Villanova University, Paige ran an indoor American Record of 2:20.3 for 1000m and a few months later ran a personal best of 3:54.6 for the mile. In June he pulled off a rare 800m/1500m double at the NCAA championships, becoming only the third man to win both events after Ron Delany (1958) and Ross Hume (1945). Mark Winzenried (born October 13, 1949) is an American former middle-distance runner. The 1971 NCAA champion at 880 yards, Winzenried narrowly missed qualifying for the American Olympic team in 1968 and was favored to qualify in 1972 until an injured Achilles tendon spoiled his chances. He held the indoor world best at the unusual distance of 1000 yards from 1972 to 1981, and still holds the world junior best in another non-standard event, 600 meters.
