Năstase Cabinet
The Năstase Cabinet was a cabinet of ministers led by Adrian Năstase that governed Romania from 28 December 2000 to 29 December 2004 during the third term of President Ion Iliescu. It was a minority cabinet formed by the winner of the 2000 parliamentary elections, PDSR, which included also members of other parties, non-parliamentary parties (PSDR, PUR). It was supported by a legislative coalition which included PNL (only for three months) and UDMR. Adrian Năstase
Adrian Năstase (; born 22 June 1950) is a Romanian jurist, academic/professor, blogger, and former politician who served as the Prime Minister of Romania from October 2000 to December 2004. He competed in the 2004 presidential election as the Social Democratic Party (PSD) candidate, but was defeated by the centre-right Justice and Truth Alliance (DA) candidate Traian Băsescu who pertained at that time to the Democratic Party (PD). He was the President of the Chamber of Deputies from 21 December 2004 until 15 March 2006, when he resigned due to corruption charges. Sentenced to two years in prison in July 2012, he attempted suicide before beginning his term in the penitentiary. Released in March 2013, he was sentenced to four years in another case in January 2014, but released that August. Romanian Social Democratic Party (1990–2001)
The Romanian Social Democratic Party ( ro, Partidul Social Democrat Român, PSDR) was a social democratic political party in Romania. Founded in 1990, shortly after the fall of the Communist party rule in Romania in December 1989, it claimed to be the direct successor of the historical Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSD) which existed between 1927 and 1948, until it merged with the Romanian Communist Party (PCR) to create the Romanian Workers' Party (PMR). Mihai Tănăsescu
Mihai Nicolae Tănăsescu (born January 11, 1956) is a Romanian economist and politician. Born in Bucharest, he graduated from the finance and accounting faculty of the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies in 1978. From that year until 1983, he headed the accounting department at a Bucharest factory. From 1983 to 1990, he was an economist at the Finance Ministry. Following the Romanian Revolution, he remained at the ministry, heading a series of departments until 1997. From 1997 to 2000, he worked at the World Bank. Cristian Diaconescu
Cristian Diaconescu (; born 2 July 1959) is a Romanian jurist and politician. He previously belonged to the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD), as well as to the People's Movement Party (PMP), which he led from 2021 to 2022. Rodica Mihaela Stănoiu (born May 10, 1939) is a Romanian jurist and politician. Ioan Talpeș (born 24 August 1944) is Romanian senator, who previously served as a Romanian Army general, military historian and politician. He served as head of the Romanian Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) from 1992 to 1997. Dan Ioan Popescu (; born March 10, 1948 in Ploieşti) is a Romanian businessman and politician. A chemical engineer, he served between 2001 and 2003 as Minister of Industry and between 2003 and 2004 as Minister of Economy, both in the Adrian Năstase cabinet. He is married and has one child.
