The Nürnberg Ice Tigers are a professional ice hockey club located in Nuremberg, Germany. They play in the country's premier league, the Deutsche Eishockey Liga. History The roots of the team can be traced back to SG Nürnberg, an ice hockey club that played in the 2nd Bundesliga from 1958 until it was closed in 1980 due to financial issues. Today's team was founded in 1980 as EHC Nürnberg 1980 e.V., as a non-profit organization. Play started in 1980–81 in the Bavarian state ice-hockey league (german: Eishockey-Bayernliga). After a single season, the team moved up to the Southern Regional league (german: Regionalliga Süd), and was promoted again after just one season in 1983 to the 3rd tier German Ice Hockey league (german: Oberliga Süd). Jozef Golonka
Jozef Golonka (born 6 January 1938) is a Czechoslovak former ice hockey player who played in the Czechoslovak Extraliga and was a member of the Czechoslovakia national ice hockey team. He won a bronze medal in the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria and won a silver medal in the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, France. John Craighead
John Craighead (born November 23, 1971) is a retired professional ice hockey right winger. He played five games for the Toronto Maple Leafs during 1996–97 season. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1991 to 2005, was spent in the minor leagues and then in Europe. Some sources claim that he was born in Richmond, Virginia. He spent most of his youth growing up in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has played ice hockey for the Nottingham Panthers and the IHL's Detroit Vipers. Tom Rowe (ice Hockey)
Thomas John Rowe (born May 23, 1956) is an American ice hockey executive, former player and coach. Career Selected by the Washington Capitals in the 1976 NHL Entry Draft, Rowe also played for the Hartford Whalers and Detroit Red Wings. He was also a member of the United States national team at the 1977 Ice Hockey World Championships. Rowe was the first American-born player to score 30 or more goals in an NHL season. He accomplished this feat in the 1978–79 season with the Washington Capitals. That season he scored 31 goals in 69 games. Kurt Kleinendorst
Kurt Kleinendorst (born December 31, 1960) is an American professional ice hockey coach. Since January 2022, he is head coach of the Iserlohn Roosters from the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). Kleinendorst played four seasons at Providence College and was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. Playing career Kleinendorst played for Providence College for four years, from 1979–80 to 1982–83, for Lou Lamoriello. He was selected in the fourth round (77th overall) of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers, but never played in the NHL. Kevin Gaudet (born October 22, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, now working as a coach. He is currently serving as head coach of the Hannover Scorpions. Playing career Gaudet attended the Université de Moncton and helped "Les Aigles Bleus" win back-to-back Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union Men's Ice Hockey championships in 1981 and 1982. The championship-winning teams were inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Bengt-Åke Gustafsson (born 23 March 1958) is a Swedish ice hockey coach and former ice hockey player. Gustafsson is a former head coach of the Sweden men's national ice hockey team, a post he held from February 2005 to May 2010. Benoît Laporte
Benoit Laporte (born June 14, 1960) is a Canadian-French professional ice hockey coach and a former professional ice hockey player. He last served as head coach of the 3L de Rivière-du-Loup. Playing career Born in Montreal, Quebec, Laporte played junior in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Laporte played professionally in the AHL, EHL, CHL, UHL and ACHL in the early and mid 1980s. In 1987, he signed with the Diables Rouges de Briançon in France. He left the club after two years, but stayed in the country, joining the Dragons de Rouen, where he would spend the remainder of his playing career.
