Niels Erik Nørlund
Niels Erik Nørlund (26 October 1885, in Slagelse – 4 July 1981, in Copenhagen) was a Danish mathematician. His book ''Vorlesungen über Differenzenrechnung'' (1924, reprinted 1954) was the first book on complex function solutions of difference equations. His doctoral students include Georg Rasch. The Norlund Alps and Norlund Land in Greenland were named after him. He was also the brother of Margrethe Nørlund Bohr and brother-in-law of Nobel Prize winning physicist Niels Bohr. Nørlund–Rice Integral
In mathematics, the Nørlund–Rice integral, sometimes called Rice's method, relates the ''n''th forward difference of a function to a line integral on the complex plane. It commonly appears in the theory of finite differences and has also been applied in computer science and graph theory to estimate binary tree lengths. It is named in honour of Niels Erik Nørlund and Stephen O. Rice. Nørlund's contribution was to define the integral; Rice's contribution was to demonstrate its utility by applying saddle-point techniques to its evaluation. In mathematics, a divergent series is an infinite series that is not convergent, meaning that the infinite sequence of the partial sums of the series does not have a finite limit. If a series converges, the individual terms of the series must approach zero. Thus any series in which the individual terms do not approach zero diverges. However, convergence is a stronger condition: not all series whose terms approach zero converge. Alex Nørlund
Alex Nørlund Andersen (born 28 January 1975) is a Danish former football player in the attacking midfielder position. He played 229 games for Vejle Boldklub, and also represented Danish Superliga clubs Viborg FF and AGF, winning the 2000 Danish Cup with Viborg. He played six games and scored two goals for the Denmark national under-21 football team. Biography Norlund started playing youth football for Jelling IF, before becoming a part of the youth team setup at Vejle Boldklub (VB). He made his debut for VB in a June 1993 game against the Zambian national team, and was called up for the Danish under-21 national team in March 1995. With VB, Norlund attempted to gain promotion for the top-flight Danish Superliga. This was accomplished when the club finished second in the 1995 Danish 1st Division season, with Norlund and Jesper Søgaard the brightest talents of the team. Louise Nørlund
Marie Sørine ''Louise'' Nørlund (1854–1919) was a Danish feminist and pacifist. She was the founder and chairman of the Danske Kvindeforeningers Valgretsforbund or DKV (the Danish Women's Society's Suffrage Union) in 1898–1907 and 1908–1909. Life She was the daughter of the farmer and parliamentarian Mikkel Hasle Christiansen (1816–83) and Ane Jacobsdatter (1820–88). She married journalist and publisher Niels Jensen Nørlund (1854–1894) in 1881, but the couple divorced in 1892, and after the death of her former spouse, she was left in full responsibility for their only child, Agnes. Louise Nørlund was early interested in politics, as her parents’ home was a center for radical democrats. Norlund Alps
The Norlund Alps ( da, Nørlund Alper) are a mountain range in King Christian X Land, East Greenland. Administratively these mountains are part of the Northeast Greenland National Park.Google Earth History The range was named during the 1929–1930 Expedition to East Greenland by Lauge Koch after Danish mathematician Niels Erik Nørlund (1885–1980) and after the Alps, for the mountains form an impressive Alpine landscape. Norlund had been the director of the Geodætisk Institut between 1923 and 1955, as well as a member of the 1931–34 Three-year Expedition to East Greenland committee. Queen Margrethe II Land ( da, Dronning Margrethe II Land) is a peninsula in the northern limit of King Christian X Land, northeastern Greenland. Administratively it belongs to the Northeast Greenland National Park, NE Greenland National Park area. History The peninsula was named after Queen Margrethe II of Denmark on 16 April 1990 on the occasion of her 50th birthday. In 1932 a Norwegian hunting station was built at the southern end of Hochstetter Foreland, on the western shore of Peters Bay, by the mouth of Ardencaple Fjord. It was named Jonsbu ''(Jónsbú)'' after Norwegian trapper John Schjelderup Giæver (1901–1970). The station was destroyed in World War II.
