Négrette
Négrette is a dark red wine grape grown primarily in South West France (wine region), South West France in the region between Albi and Toulouse. Wine regions The principal appellation using this variety, Côtes du Frontonnais (red and rosé), requires that 50% to 70% of the blend be the Négrette grape. The other 50% to 30% must be some combination of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (maximum 25% together), Côt (maximum 25%), Fer (maximum 25%), Syrah (maximum 25%), Cinsaut, Gamay, Mauzac (grape), Mauzac (a white grape), Merille (maximum 15% together). At least three grape varieties must be used. Wines Wine made from this grape tends to show versatility in being able to age moderately well and also be drunk young. In California the vine was known as ''Pinot St-George'' until 1997, when the BATF ruled that it may no longer be called that. ''Botrytis cinerea'' is a necrotrophic fungus that affects many plant species, although its most notable hosts may be wine grapes. In viticulture, it is commonly known as "botrytis bunch rot"; in horticulture, it is usually called "grey mould" or "gray mold". The fungus gives rise to two different kinds of infections on grapes. The first, grey rot, is the result of consistently wet or humid conditions, and typically results in the loss of the affected bunches. ''Uncinula necator'' (syn. ''Erysiphe necator'') is a fungus that causes powdery mildew of grape. It is a common pathogen of Vitis species, including the wine grape, ''Vitis vinifera''. The fungus is believed to have originated in North America. European varieties of ''Vitis vinifera'' are more or less susceptible to this fungus. ''Uncinula necator'' infects all green tissue on the grapevine, including leaves and young berries. It can cause crop loss and poor wine quality if untreated. Mauzac or Mauzac blanc a white variety of grape used for wine, of the species ''Vitis vinifera''. It is mainly grown in the Gaillac and Limoux regions in the southwest of France. Total French plantations of Mauzac stood at in the year 2000. In Gaillac its aromatic wines are blended with Len de l'El to create mildly sweet and sparkling white blended wines. Since the late 1980s, some Gaillac producers have created an interest in Mauzac by producing better wines. Gamay is a purple-colored grape variety used to make red wines, most notably grown in Beaujolais and in the Loire Valley around Tours. Its full name is Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc. The grapes tend to have an inky dark color and robust tannins, and are known as one of the six grapes allowed in the blend of red Bordeaux wine.
