Nynorsk User Of The Year
Nynorsk User of the Year ( no, Årets nynorskbrukar) is a prize awarded by the Nynorsk Cultural Center at the Nynorsk Festival every year. The prize is awarded to the "persons or institutions that demonstrate the ability to break language and cultural conventions on the use of Nynorsk, which through their example or practical work make it easier to be Nynorsk users, or which create a greater general understanding of Nynorsk." Since 2006, the prize has consisted of NOK 50,000 and a graphic print, and on two occasions a copy of the game ''Dialektspelet''. In 2014, the prize was NOK 100,000, split equally between the two prize recipients. The competition is headed by the Nynorsk Cultural Center, which also serves as the jury. Nynorsk Cultural Center
Nynorsk () () is one of the two written standards of the Norwegian language, the other being Bokmål. From 12 May 1885, it became the state-sanctioned version of Ivar Aasen's standard Norwegian language ( no, Landsmål) parallel to the Dano-Norwegian written language (''Riksmål''). Nynorsk became the name in 1929, and it is after a series of reforms still a variation which is closer to , whereas Bokmål is closer to ''Riksmål'' and Danish. Between 10 and 15 percent of Norwegians (Primarily in the west around the city of Bergen,) have Nynorsk as their official language form, estimated by the number of students attending Education in Norway, ''videregående skole'' (secondary education). John-Ragnar Aarset
John-Ragnar Aarset (born 18 December 1973 in Geilo) is a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. Aarset was a member of the Hol municipal council from 1991 to 1995. During the period 1995 to 2002, he was a member of the Buskerud county council. From 1998 to 2000 he was the leader of the Young Conservatives (''Unge Høyre''), the youth wing of the Conservative Party. Gunnar Skirbekk (born 11 April 1937) is a Norwegian philosopher. He is professor emeritus at the Department of Philosophy and the Center for the Study of the Sciences and the Humanities, University of Bergen. Maria Parr (born 18 January 1981 in Vanylven) is a Norwegian children's writer. She studied Nordic Languages and Literature at the University of Bergen. She currently teaches part-time at the high school in Vanylven. Guri Vesaas
Guri Vesaas (born 13 January 1939) is a Norwegian writer and translator of children's books, and former editor at the publishing house Samlaget. Biography Vesaas was born in Vinje, a daughter of novelist Tarjei Vesaas and poet Halldis Moren Vesaas, and sister of Olav Vesaas. She graduated as cand.mag. from the University of Oslo in 1965. She was awarded the Brage Prize honorary award in 2007, and also the Nynorsk User of the Year award. She has translated more than 50 children's books into Norwegian, using the pseudonym ''Hanna Midtbø'', after the farm ''Midtbø'' in Vinje, where she grew up.
