Ronald Sydney Nyholm
Sir Ronald Sydney Nyholm (29 January 1917 – 4 December 1971) was an Australian chemist who was a leading figure in inorganic chemistry in the 1950s and 1960s. Education Born on 29 January 1917 as the fourth in a family of six children. Nyholm's father, Eric Edward Nyholm (1878–1932) was a railway guard. Nyholm's paternal grandfather, Erik Nyholm (1850–1887) was a coppersmith born in Nykarleby in the Swedish-speaking part of Finland, who migrated to Adelaide in 1873. Ronald Nyholm valued his Finnish roots and was particularly proud in his election in 1959 as Corresponding Member of the Finnish Chemical Society. Naval Station Holmen ( da, Flådestation Holmen) is one of several Royal Danish Navy#Naval stations, naval stations of the Royal Danish Navy, supplementing the two Royal Danish Navy#Naval bases, Danish naval bases in Frederikshavn and Korsør. Founded in the late 17th century, it is also a visitor attraction with many historical buildings that has played a vital role in the history of Denmark as well as Copenhagen. The naval base used to occupy the entire area of Holmen, Copenhagen, Holmen, which was in fact created by a series of Land reclamation, landfills to house it, but is now confined to its northernmost island of Nyholm. Arvid Frederick Nyholm (July 12, 1866 – November 14, 1927) was a Swedish-American artist, known primarily as a portrait and landscape painter. Background Arvid Frederick Nyholm was born in Stockholm, Sweden. His father, Karl Fredrik Nyholm, was also a printer. In 1886, he graduated from Södra Real-läroverket in Stockholm. He initially studied architecture at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Royal Institute of Technology (Swedish: ) from 1886–1887. He studied privately with the well-known Swedish artist, Anders Zorn. He also was a student at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. Nyholm Central Guardhouse
Nyholm Central Guardhouse is a historic building at Holmen, Copenhagen, Holmen in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was built in 1745 as part of the Holmen Naval Base, Nyholm Naval Base which had been established on reclaimed land at the site in 1690. History The first guardhouse at Nyholm was located inside the Neptune Battery (now Sixtus Battery). When the building had become outdated and the grounds were being restructured, Naval Secretary Frederik Danneskiold-Samsøe proposed the construction of a new building to King Christian VI of Denmark , Christian VI. The plans were approved in February 1744 and the project was assigned to Philip de Lange who served as Naval Master Builder for almost 30 years and also contributed with many other buildings at Nyholm, and the building was completed the following year. Elsa Nyholm
Elsa Cecilia Nyholm (née Tufvesson) (1911–2002) was a Sweden, Swedish botanist, in particular bryologist, and researcher at Lund University and the Swedish Museum of Natural History. Elsa Nyholm was born at a farm a in Nordanå in rural Scania, southernmost Sweden. Despite a strong interest in natural history, she was not allowed to attend grammar school. Instead, she went to handicraft and household schools and developed her interest in nature on the side. In 1932, she got a job as museum assistant at the Lund University botanical museum. There, she specialized in bryology and conceived the idea of a grand moss flora of Northern Europe. Although lacking a formal academic degree, she found support at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm and received research council grants from 1954 to 1964 to undertake the work. Gustaf Nyholm (27 January 1880, Stockholm – 12 September 1957, Stockholm) was a Swedish chess master. He was the first Swedish Champion (1917–1921 and 1922–1924), and a Nordic Champion in 1917.
