Nyah
Nyah is a town in northern Victoria, Australia. The town is located on the Murray Valley Highway, in the Rural City of Swan Hill local government area, north west of the state capital, Melbourne. At the , Nyah had a population of 530. The town, on the banks of the Murray River was formed as the "Taverner Community Village Settlement" in the 1890s by Jim Thwaites as a utopian socialist community, one of many established along the Murray, including Waikerie in South Australia. The communities were established in imitation of the New Australia settlement of William Lane in Paraguay. Lack of access to water for fields and a falling-out of favour of socialism led to the end of state support for these communities. The Post Office opened on 4 May 1894 (though known as Tyntynder for some months). The Nyah State School was established in 1896 when classes were first held in the town's Top Hall. Nyah Football Club
The Nyah Football Club was a country Australian rules football team from the small Victoria (Australia), Victorian town of Nyah. The team competed in a number of leagues before staying in the Mid-Murray Football League from 1932 onwards. In 1978, the Nyah Football Club merged with the Nyah West Football Club to form the Nyah-Nyah West United Football Club. History The Nyah Football Club first joined a local league with other teams from Lalbert, Victoria, Lalbert, Lake Boga, Victoria, Lake Boga, and Swan Hill in 1899. Known then as the 'Bohemians', they competed against the other teams in both home and away matches. In 1901 Nyah played in a league consisting of Lake Boga, Goschen, Victoria, Goschen, Swan Hill and themselves, coming last with a total of one win of nine matches for the season. The Nyah-Nyah West United Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Demons'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in Nyah, a town in northern Victoria. Nyah West is a town in Victoria (Australia) near the Murray River, the border with New South Wales. It is near the Murray Valley Highway (Nyah West is on the railway line, Nyah, Victoria, Nyah is on the highway), north-west of Melbourne and north-west of Swan Hill. The town was established when the Yungera railway line, railway line was extended from Swan Hill railway station, Swan Hill to Piangil in 1915 passing some distance to the west of the established township of Nyah. The Rural City of Swan Hill is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the north-western part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 20,759. It includes the towns of Swan Hill, Lake Boga, Manangatang, Nyah, Nyah West, Piangil, Robinvale, Ultima and Woorinen South. It was formed in 1995 from the amalgamation of the City of Swan Hill, Shire of Swan Hill and part of the Shire of Kerang. Murray Valley Highway is a state highway located in Victoria and New South Wales, Australia. The popular tourist route mostly follows the southern bank of the Murray River and effectively acts as the northernmost highway in Victoria. For all but the western end's last three kilometres, the highway is allocated route B400.
