Nya Ludvika Tidning
''Nya Ludvika Tidning'' is a local Swedish daily newspaper with distribution in Ludvika and Smedjebacken municipalities. The product of a merger between two other local newspapers published since 1892 and 1910, it was first published on 1 October 1993. The paper is published in tabloid format. In February 2002, it was purchased by ''Dalarnas Tidningar''. Ludvika Municipality
Ludvika Municipality (''Ludvika kommun'') is a municipality in Dalarna County, central Sweden. It has its seat in the town of Ludvika. In 1971 the City of Ludvika (itself instituted as such in 1919) was amalgamated with the adjacent municipalities of Grangärde and Säfsnäs, forming the present entity. Smedjebacken Municipality
Smedjebacken Municipality (''Smedjebackens kommun'') is a municipality in Dalarna County in central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Smedjebacken. The present municipality was formed in two steps during the last nationwide local government reform in Sweden. In 1967 the market town (''köping'') Smedjebacken was reunited with ''Norrbärke'' from which it had been detached in 1918. In 1974 ''Söderbärke'' was added. The municipality borders to eight other municipalities. The coat of arms depicts a sailing ship and cogwheels. These are intended to show the old and new industry sectors of the municipality. It was first granted 1947, but has undergone a few redesigns since. In Smedjebacken there is a skiingclub NSKalpin.com which has a live webcamera from the slope. Tabloid Format
A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." Thus ''tabloid journalism'' in 1901, originally meant a paper that condensed stories into a simplified, easily absorbed format. The term preceded the 1918 reference to smaller sheet newspapers that contained the condensed stories. ''Dalarnas Tidningar (DT)'' is a Swedish media company formed in 1987 through the merger of Falu-Kuriren AB and Dalarnes Tidnings & Boktryckeri AB (DTBAB). Prior to the merger, Falu-Kuriren operated the independent liberal newspaper ''Falu Kuriren'' and DTBAB owned the apolitical newspapers ''Borlänge Tidning'', ''Nya Ludvika Tidning'', ''Mora Tidning,'' and ''Södra Dalarnes Tidning''. The political leanings of the newspapers were maintained after the merger and through to the current day. The newspapers of DT cover different parts of Dalarna County (), which has a population around 285,000 (2017), and had a combined circulation of 65,000 copies in 2005. Tidningsstatistik AB (TS) is the company which measures newspaper circulation in Sweden. TS started in 1937 as a section within Institutet för marknadsundersökningar (IMU, the institute for market research) and became an independent company in 1943. It used to be jointly owned by the advertising bureau association (''Annonsbyråföreningen'') and the Swedish newspaper publishers' association ('' Tidningsutgivarna'', TU). In 1994 it was sold to Scribona, an office electronics redistributor, which was a recent spinn-off from the Esselte group. Scribona then acquired Sifo, merged TS into this, sold it to the British WPP Group, where it became SIFO Research International. The main offices for SIFO and TS remain in central Stockholm, at Vasagatan 11. TS is a member of the International Federation of Audit Bureaux of Circulations (IFABC).
