Nuʻuanu Slide
Nuʻuanu Slide or Nuʻuanu Debris Avalanche is the largest of seventeen known submarine landslides around the Hawaiian Islands and at in length, one of the largest landslides on Earth. It broke from the eastern or windward side of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi between 1 and 1.5 million years ago and lies in the Pacific Ocean north of Molokaʻi. At the time of collapse, Oʻahu was part of the conglomerate island Maui Nui, elevated above the ocean from lower sea levels, and contained the Koʻolau Volcano. The eastern half of the mountain collapsed nearly in half at the caldera. The remains of the eastern half of the caldera is now Kāneʻohe Bay and the new western side is the Koʻolau Range above the bay, including observation point Nuʻuanu Pali. Bathymetry (; ) is the study of underwater depth of ocean floors (''seabed topography''), lake floors, or river floors. In other words, bathymetry is the underwater equivalent to hypsometry or topography. The first recorded evidence of water depth measurements are from Ancient Egypt over 3000 years ago. Nuʻuanu Pali
Nuuanu Pali is a section of the windward cliff (''pali'' in Hawaiian) of the Koolau mountain located at the head of Nuuanu Valley on the island of Oahu. It has a panoramic view of the windward (northeast) coast of Oahu. The Pali Highway ( Hawaii State Highway 61) connecting Kailua/ Kāneohe with downtown Honolulu runs through the Nuuanu Pali Tunnels bored into the cliffside. The area is also the location of the Nuuanu Freshwater Fish Refuge and the Nuuanu Reservoir in the jurisdiction of the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources. The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the tunnels where there is a panoramic view of Oahu's windward side with views of Kāneohe, Kāneohe Bay, and Kailua. A volcanic tsunami, also called a volcanogenic tsunami, is a tsunami produced by volcanic phenomena. About 20–25% of all fatalities at volcanoes during the past 250 years have been caused by volcanic tsunamis. Megatsunamis
A megatsunami is a very large wave created by a large, sudden displacement of material into a body of water. Megatsunamis have quite different features from ordinary tsunamis. Ordinary tsunamis are caused by underwater tectonic activity (movement of the earth's plates) and therefore occur along plate boundaries and as a result of earthquakes and the subsequent rise or fall in the sea floor that displaces a volume of water. Tuscaloosa Seamount
The Tuscaloosa Seamount is an undersea mountain in the Hawaiian archipelago. It is about northeast of the island Oʻahu. Tuscaloosa Seamount is composed of volcanic rock, but in contrast to the overwhelming majority of seamounts, it is not a submarine volcano. A fault scarp is a small step or offset on the ground surface where one side of a fault has moved vertically with respect to the other. It is the topographic expression of faulting attributed to the displacement of the land surface by movement along faults. They are exhibited either by differential movement and subsequent erosion along an old ''inactive'' geologic fault (a sort of old rupture), or by a movement on a recent active fault. Kāneʻohe Bay
Kāneohe Bay, at , is the largest sheltered body of water in the main Hawaiian Islands. This reef-dominated embayment constitutes a significant scenic and recreational feature along the northeast coast of the Island of Oahu. Submarine landslides are marine landslides that transport sediment across the continental shelf and into the deep ocean.
