Pieter Nuyts
Pieter Nuyts or Nuijts (born 1598 – 11 December 1655) was a Dutch Exploration, explorer, diplomat and politician. He was part of a landmark expedition of the Dutch East India Company in 1626–27 which mapped the southern coast of Australia. He became the Dutch ambassador to Japan in 1627, and he was appointed governor of Formosa in the same year. Later he became a controversial figure because of his disastrous handling of official duties, coupled with rumours about private indiscretions. He was disgraced, fined and imprisoned, before being made a scapegoat to ease strained Dutch relations with the Japanese. He returned to the Dutch Republic in 1637, where he became the mayor of Hulster Ambacht and of Hulst. He is chiefly remembered today in the place names of various points along the southern Australian coast, named for him after his voyage of 1626–27. Pieter Nuyts (writer)
Pieter Nuyts (1640 – buried 30 March 1709) was a Dutch poet and dramatist. The youngest son of the third Governor of Formosa (also called Pieter Nuyts), the younger Pieter was born into a comfortable situation, probably in Middelburg, before his family moved to the city of Hulst, where his father became mayor. He authored several books of poetry and plays, including ''Admetus en Alcestis'', a tragedy and satire of Juvenalis Decimus Junius Juvenalis (), known in English as Juvenal ( ), was a Roman poet active in the late first and early second century CE. Nuyts Land District
Nuyts Land District is a land district (cadastral division) of Western Australia, located within the Eastern and Eucla land divisions on the Nullarbor Plain. It spans roughly 31°00'S - 32°50'S in latitude and 124°00'E - 125°30'E in longitude. Location and features The district is located on the Nullarbor Plain in the south-east of the state and falls generally between the Great Australian Bight to the south and the Trans-Australian Railway to the north. Nuyts Reef Conservation Park
Nuyts Reef Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia associated with Nuyts Reef, which is located off the state's west coast in the Great Australian Bight about west south-west of Fowlers Bay, South Australia, Fowlers Bay. The land forming the conservation park was declared a Fauna Conservation Reserve on 16 March 1967. This was reconstituted as Nuyts Reef Conservation Park on 27 April 1972 under the ''National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972'' to "conserve Australian sea lion breeding habitat". On 19 December 1991, additional land was added to the conservation park to extend protection over land located between high tide and low tide. As of 2018, it covered an area of . Nuytsland Nature Reserve
Nuytsland Nature Reserve is a protected area of Western Australia in the south-eastern part of the state, on the south coast. Geography Nominally located at 32° 18' S 125° 52' E, it has an area of 6,253.44 km², and takes in over 500 kilometres of coastline from Cape Pasley to Red Rocks Point. In the southwest the reserve includes the Israelite Plain, a coastal plain with broad beaches, dunes, sandplains, and coastal lagoons which includes Israelite Bay. The middle section of the reserve protects the Baxter Cliffs, dramatic seacliffs that extend up to 80 metres high for over 190 km along the coast. The Baxter Cliffs feature Toolinna Cove and Twilight Cove. The reserve boundary extends northwards near Cocklebiddy to encompass Cocklebiddy Cave on the Hampton Tableland.
