Nuwan Indika (athlete)
Nuwan Indika Gamage also spelt as Nuwandika Indika is a Sri Lankan para sprinter and long jumper. He served in the Sri Lanka Light Infantry which is considered as the oldest regiment in the Sri Lanka Army. Career He claimed a silver medal in the men's long jump event at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta and Sri Lanka eventually finished the 2018 Asian Para Games on a high note with a medal tally of 14 medals and finished at 14th position. Indika clinched the silver medal with a jump clearing 6.09m in his sixth attempt in the men's long jump final. He secured three gold medals at the 2019 National Para Championships which was held at the Sugathadasa Stadium and he was adjudged the men's best athlete during the competition alongside Buddhika Indrapal. He was also a member of the Sri Lankan squad which competed at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championship. Sri Lanka made its Paralympic Games début at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, with a single athlete (Kalika Pathirana) in track and field. Sugathadasa Stadium
Sugathadasa Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is currently used for football, rugby union, and athletics. The stadium holds 25,000 people and has an on-site hotel. History The concept of an outdoor sporting stadium was initially raised by V. A. Sugathadasa, the Mayor of Colombo (1956–57, 1963–65), the country's first Minister of Sports (1966–70) and Chairman of the National Olympic and Commonwealth Games Committee. Construction of the stadium commenced on 16 January 1957 and was completed on 16 December 1962. The stadium was named after Sugathadasa, as he donated the land it was built on. In 1991, an indoor stadium was constructed on the site by the Mitsui Company for the 1991 South Asian Games. Stadium usage The 1991 and 2006 South Asian Games were held in Sugathadasa Stadium. The Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) is the oldest regiment in the Sri Lanka Army and the oldest infantry regiment in the army. It is made up of ten regular battalions and five volunteer battalions, and is headquartered at the Panagoda Cantonment, Panagoda. Over the years it has become the most distinguished and dependable regiment in the army. History The regiment's origins can be traced back to the formation of the Ceylon Light Infantry Volunteers (CLIV) force which was formed on 1 April 1881 by a proclamation issued by the Governor of Ceylon as a reserve unit in Ceylon. The 2018 Asian Para Games ( id, Pesta Olahraga Difabel Asia 2018, ''Asian Para Games 2018''), officially known as the 3rd Asian Para Games and also known as Indonesia 2018, was a pan-Asian multi-sport event that held from 6 to 13 October 2018 in Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta.
