Nuevo Gualcho
Nuevo Gualcho is a small rural community located 8 km from Nueva Granada in the department of Usulután, El Salvador. The majority of its current inhabitants settled in 1990, having previously fled to bordering Honduras like many other SalvadoreansTodd, Molly. With around 200 families inhabiting the area currently, most make a living through farming and agriculture. In recent years Nuevo Gualcho has rapidly developed an Eco Tourism route including both natural and historical sites. Nueva Granada, Usulután
Nueva Granada is a municipality in the Usulután department of El Salvador. According to the official census of 2007, it has a population of 7,451 inhabitants. History Nueva Granada stands for New Grenade and it was founded in 1854. Nueva Granada's jurisdiction resulted in the incorporation of the estate of the Nuevo Carrizal, which stands for New Reedbed. On April 24, 1907, the National Legislative Assembly issued a legislative decree that segregated from the jurisdiction of Estanzuelas, the Gualcho, and Jocomontique estates. These estates were annexed to El Triunfo estate, which stands for "Triumph." The decree included the demarcation line between Gualcho and Jocomontique populations, which was determined by the Official Engineer appointed by the government to separate the lands of the Jocomontique estate from the common lands of Estanzuelas. Usulután
Usulután () is the fifth largest city in El Salvador, and capital of the Usulután Department in the south-east of El Salvador. As of 2006, it is estimated to have population of 71,636 people. Usulután rests in a rich agricultural valley and has very high and humid temperatures most of the year as it is located close to the Pacific Ocean. The city was badly damaged by the Salvadorian earthquakes of February 2001, in addition to Hurricane Mitch in 1998. The main Catholic Church of the town is located in a park area next to the Town Hall (Alcaldia) and next to the Cine Centenario (a cinema) which are roughly located at the center of the town. The January 2001 El Salvador earthquake struck El Salvador on January 13, 2001 at 17:33:34 UTC. The 7.6 (later estimated to be 7.7 or 7.9) quake struck with the epicenter 60 miles (100 km) SW of San Miguel, El Salvador (13.04°N 88.66°W) at a depth of 60 km. Impact At least 944 people were killed, 5,565 others were injured, 108,261 houses collapsed, with another 169,692 houses damaged, and more than 150,000 buildings were damaged in El Salvador. About 585 of the deaths were caused by large landslides in Santa Tecla and Comasagua. As is often the case after earthquakes in El Salvador, landslides wreaked significant damage.
