Nudgee Beach is a suburb and beach in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , the suburb had a population of 263 people. Geography The suburb is north-west of the Brisbane central business district. The suburb is bounded to the north-east by Moreton Bay, to the south-west by Kedron Brook (), to the south-west by the Gateway Motorway, and to the north-west by Nundah Creek (). Directly to the south is Brisbane Airport. Nudgee Creek rises in Nudgee to the west and meanders through Nudgee Beach where it enters Moreton Bay at . There is a small residential area () in the east of the suburb near the beach (). There is a Brisbane City Council waste transfer station (known by the council as a resource recovery centre) in the south of the locality (). The remainder of the locality is mangrove wetlands with the northern part of the suburb being part of the Boondall Wetlands. Gateway Motorway
The Gateway Motorway (M2 to Eight Mile Plains and M1 to Pine River) is a major tolled motorway in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia which includes the Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges (former Gateway Bridge). The motorway is operated by toll road operator Transurban. It bypasses Brisbane in order to provide easier access between the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. It runs from the M2 Logan Motorway in Drewvale (near Browns Plains) to the Gympie Arterial Road in Bald Hills. ''Avicennia'' is a genus of flowering plants currently placed in the bear's breeches family, Acanthaceae. It contains mangrove trees, which occur in the intertidal zones of estuarine areas and are characterized by its "pencil roots", which are aerial roots. They are also commonly known as ''api api'', which in the Malay language means "fires", a reference to the fact that fireflies often congregate on these trees. Species of ''Avicennia'' occur worldwide south of the Tropic of Cancer. The taxonomic placement of ''Avicennia'' is contentious. Toombul Shopping Centre
Toombul Shopping Centre was a suburban shopping centre located in the locality of Toombul which is part of Nundah, a suburb of the City of Brisbane in the state of Queensland, Australia. The centre was anchored by Target and Kmart discount department stores, Coles supermarket, Aldi Food Store, an 8-screen Event Cinema and more than 140 specialty stores including Daiso. The centre opened on 11 October 1967 by The Westfield Group. Over the years it had been remodelled from its original form with several extensions, the most recent being a new dining and entertainment precinct upgrade on the second level. Toombul was the largest shopping centre on Brisbane's northside until Westfield Chermside's redevelopment in 1999-2000. The centre experienced severe damage due to flooding in February 2022, and a decision has been made to not reopen the shopping centre. Boondall Wetlands
The Boondall Wetlands lie on the edge of Moreton Bay in the Brisbane suburb of Boondall between Nudgee Beach and Shorncliffe, in south-east Queensland, Australia. The wetlands are preserved within the Boondall Wetlands Reserve which was preserved in 1990 and covers more than 1100 hectares of internationally significant wetlands. Description The Boondall Wetlands are Brisbane's largest wetlands. They became protected under the Ramsar Convention on 22 October 1993. The northern boundary is marked by Cabbage Tree Creek and the Kedron Brook floodway marks the southern limits of the wetlands. Nudgee Creek and the Gateway Motorway both pass through the wetlands, with the latter providing road access to the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre.
