Nuclear Power In Uganda
Nuclear power is not a component of Uganda’s energy supply but continues to be explored by the country. In 2008, the Parliament of Uganda enacted the Atomic Energy Act of 2008 which provides a framework for the use of nuclear energy in Uganda. History Uganda has not constructed or operated a nuclear reactor. Since 1982, Uganda has been a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology and to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Capacity building The government of Uganda has taken steps to build the institutional knowledge and capacity to safely deploy nuclear power in the country. Parliament Of Uganda
The parliament of Uganda is the country's legislative body. Unicameral, the most significant of the Ugandan parliament's functions is to pass laws that will provide good governance in the country. The government ministers are bound to answer to the people's representatives on the floor of the house. Through the various parliamentary committees, parliament scrutinises government programmes, particularly as outlined in the ''State of the Nation'' address by the president. The fiscal issues of the government, such as taxation and loans need the sanction of the parliament, after appropriate debate. Treaty On The Non-Proliferation Of Nuclear Weapons
The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, commonly known as the Non-Proliferation Treaty or NPT, is an international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of Nuclear technology, nuclear energy, and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament. Between 1965 and 1968, the treaty was negotiated by the Eighteen Nation Committee on Disarmament, a United Nations-sponsored organization based in Geneva, Switzerland. Opened for signature in 1968, the treaty entered into force in 1970. As required by the text, after twenty-five years, NPT Parties met in May 1995 and agreed to extend the treaty indefinitely. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics ("UBOS") is an agency of the Ugandan government.
