Ntoum
Ntoum or Nkan is a town in Estuaire Province in northwestern Gabon. It is the capital of the Komo-Mondah Department. Nkan lies along the N1 road and L106 road, 39.2 kilometres by road east of Libreville and 12.2 kilometres north of Nzamaligue. Demographics In the 2013 census it had a population of 51,954. In the 1993 census it had a population of 6,188 and in 2012 an estimated population of 11,754. Transport It is served by Nkan Airport. It is located on the Trans-Gabon Railway The Trans-Gabon Railway (french: Transgabonais) is the only railway in Gabon. Estuaire Province
Estuaire is the most populous of Gabon's nine provinces. It covers an area of 20,740 km. The provincial capital is Libreville, which is also Gabon's national capital. The province is named for the Gabon Estuary, which lies at the heart of the province. Estuaire is at the northwestern corner of Gabon, its western edge as the shores of the Gulf of Guinea. Trans-Gabon Railway
The Trans-Gabon Railway (french: Transgabonais) is the only railway in Gabon. It runs east from Owendo port station in Libreville to Franceville via numerous stations, the main ones being Ndjolé, Lopé, Booué, Lastoursville and Moanda. History A railway was first planned in 1885. Investigations into the line were conducted in 1968, funding was agreed in 1973, and construction began the following year. The first section, from Owendo to Ndjolé, opened in 1978, with the remaining sections opening in stages until December 1986. Costs were well over budget and almost bankrupted the country. The Trans-Gabon Railway is overall adjacent the Ogooue River until Ndjolé. Most important constructions are the Juckville Tunnel, the viaduct over the Abanga swamp, and the bridge over the confluence between the Ogooue and the Ivindo Rivers. N1 Road (Gabon)
The N1 road of Gabon is a road that runs from Libreville to Moumba that takes approximately 12 hours to drive. The portion of the road from Ndendé to the border with Congo-Brazzaville is traveled infrequently due to the instability in the latter country. However, it usually takes approximately two hours to reach the border. The N1 is paved until Ndendé. Upon exiting that city, it becomes a dirt road. Libreville
Libreville is the capital and largest city of Gabon. Occupying in the northwestern province of Estuaire, Libreville is a port on the Komo River, near the Gulf of Guinea.
