Noyes Barber
Noyes Barber (April 28, 1781 – January 3, 1844) was an American military veteran and politician who served seven terms as a United States representative from Connecticut from 1821 to 1835. Biography Barber was born in Groton, Connecticut son of John and Elizabeth (Denison) Barber. He attended the common schools and engaged in mercantile pursuits. He was a major of the Eighth Connecticut Regiment in the War of 1812 where he was detailed to defend the coast towns during the blockade by the British Fleet. He married Catherine Burdick in 1801 and they had two children, Adeliade Barber & Betsey Ann Barber Copp. Catherine died in 1813 and he married Mary Chester Smith in 1814 and they had two children, Mary Elizabeth Barber Whitman and John Starr Barber. Edward Follansbee Noyes
Edward Follansbee Noyes (October 3, 1832September 4, 1890) was a Republican politician from Ohio. Noyes served as the 30th governor of Ohio. Biography Noyes was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He was orphaned at the age of three and was raised in New Hampshire by his grandfather and a guardian. At the age of thirteen, he was apprenticed to the printer of '' The Morning Star'', a religious newspaper published in Dover, New Hampshire. He remained an apprentice for over four years until he left to enter an academy in Kingston, New Hampshire. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1857 (4th in a class of 57 students), then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended the Cincinnati Law School. Noyes served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He helped organize the 39th Ohio Infantry, and was rewarded with a commission as its first major on July 27, 1861. John Noyes (entomologist)
John Stuart Noyes (born Cardiff 1949) is a Welsh entomologist. At the age of 14 an article entitled "My Hobby has Wings" about Noyes appeared in his local newspaper, the ''Pontypridd Observer''; this 1963 article highlighted Noyes' interest in entomology at an early age. In 1967 he began studying for a degree in zoology and applied entomology at Imperial College, London where he completed his doctoral thesis on the biology of the leek moth (''Acrolepiopsis assectella''). In 1974 he was appointed as a researcher in the Chalcidoidea at the British Museum (Natural History). He was seconded to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research in New Zealand where he conducted a survey of the Chalcidoidea of New Zealand in 1980 and 1981. He travelled widely in the course of his research into the Chalcidoidea and has published over 80 papers, with some major monographs, and described one new family, 88 new genera and 644 new species of Chalcidoidea. John Noyes (politician)
John Noyes (April 2, 1764October 26, 1841) was an American politician. He served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Vermont. Biography Noyes was born in Atkinson in the Province of New Hampshire to Humphrey Noyes and Elizabeth Little. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1795, where he studied theology. After graduation, he worked as a tutor at Chesterfield Academy from 1795 until 1797, and at Dartmouth College from 1797 until 1799. One of the students he taught at Dartmouth was Daniel Webster, 14th and 19th United States Secretary of State. In 1800 Noyes moved to Brattleboro, Vermont and focused on business pursuits. He was a member of the firm of "Noyes, Mann and Hayes", one of the earliest chain stores in America. Rev. James Noyes (born 1608, Wiltshire, England – died 22 October 1656, Newbury, Massachusetts Bay Colony) was an English clergyman who emigrated to Massachusetts. He was a founder of Newbury, Massachusetts. Biography James Noyes was the fifth son of the Rev. William Noyes of Cholderton, Wiltshire, and his wife Anne, and was born at Cholderton in 1608. He was the cousin, on his mother's side, of Thomas Parker (1595-1677), who had been left to the education of William Noyes when his father Robert Parker fled into exile in the Netherlands in 1607. Educated under the guidance of his father, and receiving much instruction from Parker, he entered Brasenose College, Oxford in 1627, but did not proceed to a degree. Henry Sanborn Noyes (December 24, 1822 – May 24, 1872) was an American academic who served as interim president of Northwestern University from 1854 to 1856, and again from 1860 to 1867. Biography Noyes was born in Landaff, New Hampshire, on December 24, 1822, to devout Methodist parents. He was graduated from Wesleyan University like many of Northwestern's presidents and early professors. Noyes graduated (in 1848) from the university just 9 years after Clark T. Hinman, the first president of Northwestern, graduated from the institution. Noyes actually studied under Hinman at Newbury Seminary in Montpelier, Vermont (where Hinman was president at the time) shortly thereafter. Haskell Noyes
Haskell Noyes (July 22, 1886 – December 8, 1948) was an American college basketball player and coach as well as a noted conservationist. Born into a well-to-do family of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Noyes attended Yale University from 1904 to 1908. He played for their basketball team and was the captain for his final two seasons. As a senior in 1907–08, Noyes was selected as a consensus All-American by the Helms Athletic Foundation. After graduation, Noyes spent the next three years in his home state, serving as the head coach of the University of Wisconsin–Madison's basketball team. In three seasons in charge of the Badgers, Noyes compiled a 26–15 overall record. Two years later, he found himself in charge of Yale's team. Noyes Museum
The Noyes Museum of Art is an art museum. It styles itself as the only fine arts museum in southern New Jersey. The museum opened in 1983 in Galloway Township, New Jersey. Due to lack of funds for needed repairs, the main Galloway building in Oceanville was closed to the public in 2016. The Oceanville property was eventually sold in 2021. The museum has since moved into four other affiliated sites where its collection is displayed: the Noyes Art Garage in Atlantic City, Kramer Hall in Hammonton, the Noyes Gallery at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, and the Seaview golf club in Galloway. Since 2017, the museum is fully a part of Stockton University, a partnership which began in 2010 and expanded in 2016. Frederick Bogue Noyes (1872–1961) was an American dentist. His dental career began before the age of ten when he worked as an assistant to his dentist father.
