Now I Know (novel)
''Now I Know'' is a young adult novel by Aidan Chambers, first published in 1987. It is a meditation on faith and religion through three interlinked stories, which are told by means of letters, jottings, flashbacks, poetry and puzzles. The novel is part of the author's Dance Sequence, a group of novels which stand alone but can be read in relation to each other. As part of Chambers' interest in experimental writing, he refers to Tom Phillip's remarkable '' A Humument: a Treated Victorian Novel'' (Thames & Hudson, 1980), a modern work that is created from the pages of an actual Victorian novel by painting over most of the words of the original, creating illustrations and decorations, while leaving enough of the original words on each page to tell a total new story. Chambers includes a similar experimental collage-like page of image and text. Aidan Chambers
Aidan Chambers (born 27 December 1934) is a British author of children's and young-adult novels. He won both the British Carnegie Medal and the American Printz Award for ''Postcards from No Man's Land'' (1999). For his "lasting contribution to children's literature" he won the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2002. Life and work Born near Chester-le-Street, County Durham in 1934, Chambers was an only child, and a poor scholar; considered "slow" by his teachers, he did not learn to read fluently until the age of nine. After two years in the Royal Navy as part of his National Service, Chambers trained as a teacher and taught for three years at Westcliff High School in Southend on Sea before joining an Anglican monastery in Stroud, Gloucestershire in 1960.
