NowPublic was a user-generated social news website. The company was based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and was founded by Michael Tippett, Leonard Brody and Michael E. Meyers in 2005. On Sept. 2, 2009 the company was acquired by Clarity Digital Group, LLC, wholly owned by The Anschutz Company, a Denver-based investment company. Effective December 27, 2013 the site was closed and the domain redirected to www.examiner.com. In addition to content contributed by users, NowPublic had a content-sharing agreement with the Associated Press. ''Time'' magazine named NowPublic.com one of the Top 50 websites of 2007. In 2009, the site was nominated for an Emmy in Advanced Technology. Michael Tippett (businessman)
Michael Tippett (born February 23, 1970) is a Canadian entrepreneur, columnist and educator. Early life and career He was the founder of NowPublic which was a user-generated social news website. In 2009 the site was nominated for an Emmy in Advanced Technology. In August 2009 NowPublic was acquired by billionaire, Phillip Anschutz for a reported 25 million dollars. In 2009, Tippett was recognized by the British Columbia New Media Association with an award for visionary leadership. Prior to his involvement in NowPublic, Tippett was the Director of Marketing for Afternic.com. Afternic was acquired by Register.com for $60 million in 2001. Leonard Brody is a Canadian venture capitalist, author and media commentator. He has helped in raising money for startup companies, been through a number of internet IPOs and has been involved in the building, financing and/or sale of more than five companies to date. In 2004, Brody co-founded, and was CEO of, NowPublic, a citizen journalism online news source. In 2007, the company was named by Time Magazine as one of the top 50 websites in the world, was inducted into the Newseum in Washington and was recently acquired by the Anschutz Corporation.
