Nouvelle Vague (band)
Nouvelle Vague is a French cover band led by musicians Olivier Libaux and Marc Collin. Their name means "new wave" in French, and refers simultaneously to the French New Wave cinema movement of the 1960s, to the new wave music movement of the 1970s and 1980s, which provides many of the songs that the band covers, and to bossa nova (Portuguese for "new wave"), a musical style that the band frequently uses in its arrangements. The group's recordings and live performances have featured a large rotating cast of mostly female vocalists. Several of the artists who have performed with the band have also had successful solo careers, including Camille, Phoebe Killdeer, Mélanie Pain, and Nadéah Miranda. Rockefeller Music Hall
Rockefeller Music Hall, ordinarily referred to simply as Rockefeller, is a concert venue located in Torggata, downtown Oslo, Norway. The building, known as "Torggata Bad" ("Market Street Bath"), used to house a public bathing facility. To this day the surrounding floors of the building consists of Tilt Oslo, Torggata Bar, Oslo Streetfood and Oslo Bar & Bowling. The music hall was established in 1986, and it can host between 1600 and 2000 people depending on the type of gig, show or festival currently running. Rockefeller is owned by the Rockefeller Music Hall Company, of which also runs John Dee (pax 488), which is a smaller venue located in the lower floors of the same building complex. Mareva Galanter
Mareva Galanter (born 4 February 1979) is a French singer, actress and former beauty queen. Galanter won the 1998 "Miss World Islands" and then the 1998 "Miss Tahiti" beauty contest that allowed her to compete for the Miss France 1999 crown, which she won. She also competed in Miss Universe 1999, in which she did not place. Career Galanter was born in Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia. She started early in modeling. She was not 16 that she was already doing photoshoots in French Polynesia (with Dominique Petras in Bora Bora, for instance). She kept modeling in Europe, where she headed for the "Miss France" Contest. She also modeled for her partner Jean Charles de Castelbajac, designer of his own brand, living in Paris. Joy Division
Joy Division were an English rock band formed in Salford in 1976. The group consisted of vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris. Sumner and Hook formed the band after attending a June 1976 Sex Pistols concert. While Joy Division's first recordings were heavily influenced by early punk, they soon developed a sparse sound and style that made them one of the pioneers of the post-punk movement. Their self-released 1978 debut EP ''An Ideal for Living'' drew the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson, who signed them to his independent label Factory Records. The Clash
The Clash were an English rock band formed in London in 1976 who were key players in the original wave of British punk rock. Billed as "The Only Band That Matters", they also contributed to the and new wave movements that emerged in the wake of punk and employed elements of a variety of genres including reggae, dub, funk, ska, and rockabilly. For most of their recording career, the Clash consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Joe Strummer, lead guitarist and vocalist Mick Jones, bassist Paul Simonon, and drummer Nicky "Topper" Headon. Headon left the group in 1982 due to internal friction surrounding his increasing heroin addiction. Further internal friction led to Jones' departure the following year. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is a song by English rock band Joy Division, released in June 1980 as a non-album single. Nouvelle Vague (album)
''Nouvelle Vague'' is the debut studio album by the French band Nouvelle Vague. It was first released on 9 August 2004 on Peacefrog Records. The album consists entirely of easy listening and bossa nova versions of songs that were written and recorded during the post-punk/ new wave era. The band's name is a play on words, ''new wave'' and ''bossa nova'' being the literal translations, in English and Portuguese respectively, of the French phrase ''Nouvelle Vague'', which is itself a reference to the French cinema movement of the 1950s and 1960s. The songs were recorded with female vocalists who had not previously heard the songs they would be covering.
