Euroclassic Notturno
''Euroclassic Notturno'' is a six-hour radio sequence of classical music recordings assembled by BBC Radio from material supplied by members of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and distributed, via the EBU's Euroradio satellite network, to a number of these broadcasters for use in their overnight classical music schedules. The recordings used are not taken from commercially available CDs but come instead from earlier (usually live) radio broadcasts. Though supplied by the BBC on a commercial basis, the service nevertheless claims to provide broadcasters with a less expensive alternative to local origination of overnight classical-music programming. Format The sequence is put together by a small BBC team in London and Salford, and gaps are provided in the schedule to allow for local origination of explanatory material in each broadcaster's national language (written programme notes in English are supplied by the BBC some weeks in advance), top-of-the-hour news summaries, etc. ...

Notturno (Strauss)
"Notturno" (translated as Nocturne), Opus 44, Number 1 (TrV 197), is an orchestral song written for low voice, which Richard Strauss composed in 1899 based on a poem ''Erscheinung'' (translated as ''Apparition'') by the German poet Richard Dehmel (1863-1920). In performance it takes about 13 minutes. Norman Del Mar described it as “ranking amongst Strauss’s finest as well as more ambitious works”. Composition history Strauss wrote two “large songs for low voice and orchestral accompaniment” (German '): ''Notturno'' being the first and ''Nächtlicher Gang'' the second. Strauss described his two songs in correspondence with his father Franz Strauss as “ Baritone songs”. The song was dedicated to the Dutch baritone Anton von Rooy. It was premiered on December 3, 1900, in Berlin, with the composer conducting the Berlin Royal Court Opera with baritone Baptist Hoffmann. The orchestration is for strings and wind, with no percussion and “just three trombones for thei ...

Nocturne
A nocturne is a musical composition that is inspired by, or evocative of, the night. History The term ''nocturne'' (from French '' nocturne'' 'of the night') was first applied to musical pieces in the 18th century, when it indicated an ensemble piece in several movements, normally played for an evening party and then laid aside. Sometimes it carried the Italian equivalent, ''notturno'', such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Notturno in D, K.286, written for four lightly echoing separated ensembles of paired horns with strings, and his ''Serenata Notturna'', K. 239. At this time, the piece was not necessarily evocative of the night, but might merely be intended for performance at night, much like a serenade. The chief difference between the serenade and the notturno was the time of the evening at which they would typically be performed: the former around 9:00pm, the latter closer to 11:00 pm. In its form as a single-movement character piece usually written for solo piano, the noctur ...

Notturno (Schoeck)
''Notturno'' (german: Notturno: Fünf Sätze für Bariton und Streichquartett) is a song cycle for baritone and string quartet by Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck (1886-1957). It was composed between 1931 and 1933, and was published as his Op. 47. It consists of musical settings of nine poems by the Austrian poet Nikolaus Lenau (1802-1850) and of one by the Swiss poet Gottfried Keller (1819-1890). It is in 14 sections: the German title ''Fünf Sätze'' (i.e. "Five pieces", or "movements") refers to the fact that the vocal settings fall into five groups, four of poems by Lenau and one of the poem by Keller, separated by instrumental interludes. # "Sieh dort den Berg mit seinem Wiesenhange" (Lenau) # "Sieh hier den Bach, anbei die Waldesrose" (Lenau) # Andante appassionato (string quartet alone) # "Die dunklen Wolken hingen" (Lenau) # "Sahst du ein Glück vorübergehn" (Lenau) # Presto (string quartet alone) # "Der Traum war so wild" (Lenau) # "Es weht der Wind so kühl" (Lenau) # "Ri ...

Notturno (Schubert)
The Notturno in E-flat major, Op. 148 ( D. 897), also called ''Adagio'', is a nocturne for piano trio by Franz Schubert. Description This substantial but relatively neglected piece has affinities with the slow movements of both the String Quintet in C major D. 956, and the Piano Trio No. 1 in B-flat, D 898. Completed in the Autumn of 1827, it is possibly a rejected slow movement of the Piano Trio No. 1. It has the sublime slowness of the string quintet movement (in one recording of the Notturno, by the Beaux Arts Trio, Schubert takes half a minute to leave the opening tonic harmony), together with a similar use of pizzicato at various points, and with the same paradoxical effect: the pizzicato decorations of the main tune seem to enhance the underlying tragedy of the music, rather than lightening it. The main thematic idea has a characteristic common to a number of Schubert's most celebrated melodic ideas, including the second subjects of both the C major string quintet's fi ...

List Of Compositions By Ludwig Van Beethoven
The compositions of Ludwig van Beethoven consist of 722 works written over forty-five years, from his earliest work in 1782 (variations for piano on a march by Ernst Christoph Dressler) when he was only eleven years old and still in Bonn, until his last work just before his death in Vienna in 1827. Beethoven composed works in all the main genres of classical music, including symphonies, concertos, string quartets, piano sonatas and opera. His compositions range from solo works to those requiring a large orchestra and chorus. Beethoven straddled both the Classical period (music), Classical and Romantic periods, working in genres associated with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his teacher Joseph Haydn such as the piano concerto, string quartet and symphony, while on the other hand providing the groundwork for other Romantic composers such as Hector Berlioz and Franz Liszt with programmatic works such as his Symphony No. 6 (Beethoven), Pastoral Symphony and Piano Sonata No. 26 (Beethoven) ...
