Alice Notley
Alice Notley (born November 8, 1945) is an American poet. Notley came to prominence as a member of the second generation of the New York School of poetry—although she has always denied being involved with the New York School or any specific movement in general. Notley's early work laid both formal and theoretical groundwork for several generations of poets; she is considered a pioneering voice on topics like motherhood and domestic life. Notley's experimentation with poetic form, seen in her books ''165 Meeting House Lane'', ''When I Was Alive'', '' The Descent of Alette'', and ''Culture of One'', ranges from a blurred line between genres, to a quotation-mark driven interpretation of the variable foot, to a full reinvention of the purpose and potential of strict rhythm and meter. Great Notley
Great Notley is a village to the south-west of Braintree, Essex in England. It has an approximate population of 7,845 and became an independent civil parish on 1 April 2000 as a result of The Great Notley Parish Council Order 2000. Archeology Excavations in Great Notley revealed the remains of Iron Age and Roman settlements with a series of enclosures overlaid with a Roman development on the site of the Skyline Business Park, where it is thought that there was a series of occupations on the site from the late Iron Age onwards, which included brewing, farming and the production of textiles. Mottley is a surname of English origin strongly associated with Ireland. Its roots are obscure, with some French attributes to the Norman Conquest of 1066, others to place names in England. Mottley is very frequently spelled as ''Motley'' and the two spellings are often incorrectly used interchangeably, causing some confusion. In general, Mottley tends to be Catholic, while ''Motley'' tends to be Protestant and more related to England. White Notley Railway Station
White Notley railway station is on the Braintree Branch Line in the East of England, serving the village of White Notley, Essex. It is down the line from London Liverpool Street and it is situated between to the south and to the north. Its three-letter station code is WNY. The platform has an operational length for twelve-coach trains. In 2018/19 it was the least used station in Essex. The station is currently managed by Greater Anglia, which also operates all trains serving it. The typical off-peak service is of one train per hour to and one to , where Monday-Saturday services continue onto the Great Eastern Main Line for London Liverpool Street. White Notley is a parish in Essex, England. The settlement (which includes the outlying hamlet of The Green) lies equidistant between the towns of Witham and Braintree amongst arable farmland, in each direction. White Notley is a quintessentially English village with a small primary school, public house, railway station, post office, village hall and a 10th-century church. The village has a population of fewer than five hundred inhabitants, but at the 2011 Census the population of the civil parish was measured at 522. Notley Abbey
Notley Abbey was an Augustinian abbey founded in the 12th century near Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, England. A team from Oxford excavated Notley Abbey in 1937, establishing a layout and timeline of the building's construction. The building has been visited by notable figures such as Henry V, and was owned by the celebrities Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh. Today, the remnants of the abbey are owned by the company Bijou Wedding Venues and are used to host weddings. Bernarr "Bill" Notley (31 August 1918 – 22 January 2019) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. Notley made a single first-class appearance for Nottinghamshire against Surrey at The Oval in the 1949 County Championship. Surrey won the toss and elected to bat first, making 491/6 declared, with Notley taking the wicket of David Fletcher to finish with figures of 1/90 from 28 overs. In response, Nottinghamshire made 213/8 in their first innings, during which Notley was dismissed for a duck by Alec Bedser. Thomas Notley (Cerne Abbas, Cerne Abbas, Dorset, England 1632 - 3 April 1679) was the 8th Proprietary Governor of Province of Maryland, Maryland from 1676 through 1679. Having first moved to Barbados he immigrated to America in 1662. He was the speaker of the legislature in 1666. He and fellow Barbadian immigrant Jesse Wharton (Maryland governor), Jesse Wharton passed slave codes similar to those in Barbados that punished those who helped in the escape of a slave or who stole and kept another planter’s slave for themselves. In 1663, Notley purchased a 500 acre tenancy from Thomas Gerrard (colonialist), Thomas Gerrard on St. Clement's manor, followed by an additional 1800 acres from Duddington Manor and adjoining tracts. These were eventually combined into the single holding Cerne Abbas Manor, where Notley Hall was built, now near Maddox, Maryland.
