Produced by Scorpio and Mystery, the track was released in September 2001 as the second single off Carter's third album ''Oh Aaron''. "Not Too Young, Not Too Old" is Carter's second song to feature vocals from his older brother Nick Carter (musician), Nick, who sings the chorus. The song failed to appear on any Billboard (magazine), ''Billboard'' charts but managed to reach number 80 in Australia. He came to fame as a teen pop singer in the late 1990s, establishing himself as a star among preteen and teenage audiences during the first years of the 21st century, with his four studio albums.
