''Not So Dusty'' is a compilation album of Slim Dusty songs covered by Australian musicians. It was released in Australia by EMI in 1998. It was nominated for a 1999 ARIA Award for Best Country Album. ''Not So Dusty'' received positive reviews and was certified gold. Gary Tippet of the Sunday Age gave it 3 stars and Peter Lalor of the Daily Telegraph gave it 7/10 although he noted that most of the Australian country outfits on the album "seem to bland out with their attempt at authentic outings". Keith Glass writing in the Sunday Herald Sun says "but what could have been a dodgy concept is mainly highly entertaining." The Age's Mike Daly calls it "a splendid tribute by some diverse performers." and the Sunday Mail calls it a "wonderful tribute". Cunnamulla Feller
"Cunnamulla Fella" (sometimes written as "Cunnamulla Feller") is an Australian country song about a fictional stockman from the Queensland town of Cunnamulla that was first recorded by Slim Dusty in 1965 and has been covered by several artists. An eponymous statue was unveiled in 2005 and is a major feature of the Cunnamulla town centre. Background The song "Cunnamulla Fella" was written by the Australian country music artist Slim Dusty in collaboration with Stan Coster. Recorded in 1965 and released in that year as the b-side to "A Letter From Down Under" (Columbia DO-4633), The song's lyrics tell the story of a nomadic and carefree stockman who roams the vast landscapes of the Outback and recall Coster's days working as a sheep-shearing "ringer" around Cunnamulla in the 1950s. Dead Ringer Band
Dead Ringer Band were an Australian family country music band. They are best known for their ARIA Award-winning album '' Home Fires'' which won the Best Country Album at the ARIA Music Awards of 1996. Background and formation Dead Ringer Band had its roots in the husband and wife team of Bill and Diane Chambers. Shortly after the birth of their second child Kasey in 1976, and with their three-year-old son Nash, the family moved to central Australia's Nullarbor Plain. The Chambers earned a living by hunting and trapping rabbits and foxes that raided Nullarbor poultry farms, then selling the pelts. John Williamson (singer)
John Robert Williamson (born 1 November 1945) is an Australian country music and folk music singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, television host and conservationist. Williamson usually writes and performs songs that relate to the history and culture of Australia, particularly the outback, in a similar vein to Slim Dusty and Buddy Williams before him. Edmund "Ed" Kuepper (born 20 December 1955) is a German-born Australian guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. He co-founded the punk band The Saints (1973–78), the experimental post-punk group Laughing Clowns (1979–85) and the grunge-like The Aints! (1991–94, 2017–present). James Blundell (singer)
James Blundell (born 8 December 1964) is an Australian country music singer. Born in Stanthorpe, Queensland, Blundell first rose to prominence after being named "best new talent" at the 1987 Country Music Awards of Australia. Blundell has since released several albums in both Australia and the United States, with his most successful album '' This Road'' (released in 1992) selling more than 145,000 copies in Australia. Don Walker (musician)
Donald Hugh Walker (born 29 November 1951) is an Australian musician and songwriter who wrote many of the hits for Australian pub rock band Cold Chisel. Walker is considered to be one of Australia's best songwriters. In 2012 he was inducted into the Australian Songwriter's Hall of Fame. He played piano and keyboard with the Cold Chisel from 1973 to 1983, when they disbanded. He has since continued to record and tour, both solo, initially under the name Catfish and as Tex, Don and Charlie, and worked as a songwriter for others. In 2009, he released his first book. Anne Kirkpatrick
Anne Kirkpatrick (born 4 July 1952) is an Australian country music singer. She is the daughter of country singers Slim Dusty and Joy McKean. Biography She also has a brother, David Kirkpatrick, who is an accomplished singer-songwriter. The year 1964 saw the establishment of the annual Slim Dusty Australia-round tour, a journey that went on for ten months. This regular event was the subject of a feature film, ''The Slim Dusty Movie'', in 1984, which includes several performances featuring Anne Kirkpatrick.
