John Nost
John Nost (Dutch: Jan van Nost) (died 1729) was a Flemish sculptor who worked in England in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Life Originally from Mechelen in what is now Belgium, he moved to England in the second half of the 17th century, gaining employment with the sculptor Arnold Quellin as a foreman. After Quellin's death in 1686, Nost married his widow, and established his own sculptural works business in the Haymarket district of London. He was prolific and received many commissions, including at Hampton Court Palace, Melbourne Hall, Castle Howard, Buckingham Palace, and Chatsworth. Many of his statues were cast in lead. Van Nost died at his home at Hyde Park in London on 26 April 1729. Apprentices and Collaborators Van Nost was heavily involved with other well known sculptors of the day. John Nost Sartorius
John Nost Sartorius (1759–1828), was an English painter of horses, horse-racing and hunting scenes. He is considered the best-known and prolific of the Sartorius family of artists. Life and work John Nost Sartorius was the son of horse-artist Francis Sartorius and the grandson of John Sartorius. He was patronised by the leading sportsmen of the day, such as the Prince of Wales, the Earl of Derby, Lord Foley, Sir Charles Bunbury, and many others, and his pictures (some of them of large size) were found in many country houses. He preferred to be known as John N. Sartorius Jr. to distinguish himself from his father and grandfather. From 1781-1824 his name appeared as an exhibitor in the catalogues of the Royal Academy, and a list of the 74 pictures which he showed there can be found in Walter Gilbey's in "Animal painters of England from the year 1650, volume 2". John Van Nost The Younger
John van Nost the younger (1713-1780) was the nephew of the noted Flemish-born British sculptor John van Nost and a noteworthy sculptor in his own right. Life He was born around 1712 in Piccadilly, London and was apprenticed to Henry Scheemakers in 1726. It is also highly likely that some training was at the direct hand of his uncle. It is probable that they worked together on pieces during his time in London from 1725 to 1729. Little is known of his time from 1729 to 1749, but it is presumed that he worked in Britain, continuing on his uncle's name and reputation. Ellen Fraatz, known professionally as Ellen Allien, is a German electronic musician, music producer, and the founder of BPitch Control music label. Her album ''Stadtkind'' was dedicated to the city of Berlin, and she cites the culture of reunified Berlin as one of the main inspirations for her music. She sings in both German and English. Her music is best described as a blend of IDM and Techno music, which is dance-floor oriented and has noticeable experimental elements. She lives in Berlin and calls it the "best city in the world." Career Ellen Allien was born and grew up in West Berlin. During 1989, she lived in London where she first came into contact with electronic music. When she later returned to Berlin, electronic music had become increasingly popular in Germany. In 1992, she became resident DJ at the Bunker, Tresor, and E-Werk.
