Norwood Football Club (Victoria)
The Norwood Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in North Ringwood, Victoria. They play in Division 1 of the Eastern Football League. History The Norwood Football Club was founded in 1960 by David Jamieson, a teacher at the local Norwood High School. He recognised the need for a club to cater for the expanding number of juniors wanting to learn to play football in the North Ringwood area. The club quickly expanded to field its first senior side in 1961 in the then Croydon-Ferntree Gully Football League. The CFGFL became the Eastern District Football League and the club won third division premierships in 1982, 1989 and 2003. In 2007 the EFL expanded its first division by two clubs to twelve. Norwood was invited for promotion as they were runners-up in second division. They have competed in first division every year since 2007 and won the 2014 premiership. The Eastern Football Netball League (known previously as the Eastern Districts Football League and later the Eastern Football League) is an Australian rules football league, based in the eastern suburbs of metropolitan Melbourne. History The Eastern Districts Football League was established on 15 February 1962, but its origins can be traced back to the Reporter District Football League established in 1903. From 1927 until World War 2, the league was known as the Ringwood District Football League. It was known as the Croydon District Football League and the Croydon Mail Football League between World War 2 and 1949. In 1950 the league became known as the Croydon-Ferntree Gully League. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. North Ringwood, Victoria
Ringwood North is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 24 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Manningham and Maroondah local government areas. Ringwood North recorded a population of 9,964 at the 2021 census. The suburb is mostly located within the City of Maroondah, with a small part in the north west of the suburb being located within the City of Manningham. It is bounded on the south by Loughnan, Warrandyte and Wonga Roads (these roads flow into one another continuously). Glenvale Road forms the westernmost boundary in the southern part of the suburb, with the Warrandyte-Ringwood Road forming the western boundary at the northern end of the suburb. Tom Boyd (Australian Footballer)
Thomas Boyd (born 22 August 1995) is a former professional Australian rules footballer. He was selected with the first overall pick in the 2013 AFL draft by the Greater Western Sydney Giants, but was traded to the Western Bulldogs following the 2014 season. In 2016, he helped the Bulldogs win their first premiership since 1954. After struggling with injuries and mental health, Boyd announced his retirement from AFL football in May 2019. Early life Boyd attended Luther College in Croydon Hills, Victoria and played junior football for the Norwood Football Club. Sam Blease (born 19 February 1991) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club and Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Selected by Melbourne with pick 17 in the 2008 AFL Draft, he previously played with the Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup, represented the under-18 Vic metro side in 2008 and is an AIS/AFL Academy graduate. Blease suffered a setback in his first year with the Demons when he broke his leg, ruling him out for majority of the 2009 season. Adam Cerra (born 7 October 1999) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He formerly played for the Fremantle Football Club between 2018 and 2021. AFL career After an impressive, but injury riddled junior career for Norwood Football Club (Victoria), Norwood in the Eastern Football League (Australia), Eastern Football League and Eastern Ranges in the TAC Cup, he was then selected by Fremantle with their second selection, fifth overall, in the 2017 AFL draft#2017 national draft, 2017 AFL national draft. Cerra made his AFL debut for Fremantle in the second round of the 2018 AFL season. He was awarded the round 16 nomination for the 2018 AFL Rising Star award.
