Norwood Bowne
Norwood Bowne (May 2, 1813 in New York City – January 7, 1890 in Delhi, Delaware County, New York) was an American newspaper editor and politician from New York. Life In early youth he learned the printer's trade. In 1830, he removed to Delhi, New York, to study law with Charles Hathaway, who had married Bowne's sister Maria Augusta in 1828, but worked for the ''Delaware Republican'' instead. This paper was not successful, and Bowne returned to New York City, where he published the ''Protestant Vindicator''. In 1834, the printing and publishing house was destroyed by fire. In 1839, he returned to Delhi, New York, and from January 1839 until his death, he published the ''Delaware Express''. He was postmaster of Delhi, New York, from 1849 to 1852. In 1854, he was elected an inspector of state prisons, being in office from 1855 to 1857. In 1876, he ran for presidential elector on the Republican Rutherford B. Norwood Hallowell
Norwood Penrose Hallowell III (2 November 1909 – 28 March 1979) was an American middle distance runner who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics. He broke the Olympic record for the 1500-meter race. Early life He was born to Norwood Penrose Hallowell Jr. (1875-1961), a president of Lee, Higginson & Co. and Margaret Ingersoll Bowditch Hallowell (1881-1953), a great-granddaughter of navigator Nathaniel Bowditch. He competed for Harvard after prepping at Milton Academy, and later spent time at Balliol College, one of Oxford's oldest constituent colleges. Hallowell participated in Oxford's track team. While at Harvard, he captained his freshman and varsity cross country teams. His 4m 12.4s mile was the fastest ever stepped by a college student. Norwood Russell Hanson (August 17, 1924 – April 18, 1967) was an American philosopher of science. Hanson was a pioneer in advancing the argument that observation is theory-laden — that observation language and theory language are deeply interwoven — and that historical and contemporary comprehension are similarly deeply interwoven. His single most central intellectual concern was the comprehension and development of a logic of discovery. Work Hanson's best-known work is ''Patterns of Discovery'' (1958), in which he argues that what we see and perceive is not what our senses receive, but is instead filtered sensory information, where the filter is our existing preconceptions – a concept later called a 'thematic framework.'
