Nortraship
The Norwegian Shipping and Trade Mission (Nortraship) was established in London in April 1940 to administer the Norwegian merchant fleet outside German-controlled areas. Nortraship operated some 1,000 vessels and was the largest shipping company in the world. It made a major contribution to the Allied war effort. The British politician Philip Noel-Baker, Baron Noel-Baker, commented after the war, "The first great defeat for Hitler was the battle of Britain. It was a turning point in history. If we had not had the Norwegian fleet of tankers on our side, we should not have had the aviation spirit to put our Hawker Hurricanes and our Spitfires into the sky. Arne Sunde
Arne Toralf Sunde (6 December 1883 – 30 July 1972) was a Norwegian politician, Olympic shooter and army officer. He is best known for his participation in the 1940 Norwegian Campaign, his participation in Nygaardsvold's Cabinet during its 1940–1945 exile in London and three years as a United Nations ambassador. Sunde was President of the United Nations Security Council in June 1949 and July 1950. Tor Vangen Skjønsberg (27 April 1903 - 8 September 1993) was a Norwegian resistance leader, by education he was a lawyer. In 1941 Tor Skjønsberg called for a meeting " Grimelundsmøtet" which is considered the start of organized resistance in Norway. Sven Nielsen (18 March 1883 – 21 January 1958) was a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from the Market towns of Vest-Agder and Rogaland counties in 1934, and was re-elected on three occasions. Between 9 March and 25 June 1945 he was appointed Minister of Trade, Shipping, Industry, Crafts and Fisheries. Born in Stavanger, Nielsen was a member of Harstad city council from 1919 to 1922, and then served as mayor from 1922 to 1925.
