Norway competed at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Some athletes (but not all) entered in both the cross-country skiing and Nordic combined event, their time on the 18 km was used for both events. The ski jumping (normal hill) event was held separate from the main medal event of ski jumping, results can be found in the table below. The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports ( no, Norges idrettsforbund og olympiske og paralympiske komité; NIF) is the umbrella organization for sport in Norway. It is the largest volunteering organization in Norway, with more than 2 million members and 12,000 sports clubs in 19 region confederations and 54 national federations. The current president is Berit Kjøll. Birger Ruud
Birger Ruud (23 August 1911 – 13 June 1998) was a Norwegian ski jumper and alpine skier. Career Born in Kongsberg, Birger Ruud, with his brothers Sigmund and Asbjørn, dominated international jumping in the 1930s, winning three world championships in 1931, 1935 and 1937. Ruud also won the Olympic gold medal in 1932 and 1936, the first repeat winner of ski jumping gold. He also was an accomplished alpine skier, winning a bronze medal in the combined at the 1935 world championships. Ruud won the Holmenkollen ski jumping competition in 1934 and shared the Holmenkollen medal in 1937 with Olaf Hoffsbakken and Martin P. Vangsli. In 1943, during the German occupation of Norway, Ruud was incarcerated at Grini concentration camp for expressing his anti-Nazi sentiments. After his release in 1944, he joined the Norwegian resistance movement. Nanna Egedius (14 May 1913 – 21 April 1986) was a Norwegian figure skater. She competed at the 1931 World Figure Skating Championships, where she placed seventh. She also competed at the 1933, 1934 and 1935 World Figure Skating Championships, and she participated at the 1936 Winter Olympics. Trygve Brodahl
Trygve Brodahl (20 August 1905 in Hønefoss – 11 April 1996) was a Norwegian cross-country skier who competed during the 1930s. He won a silver medal at the 1930 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 17 km and a silver in the 4 × 10 km relay as well as a bronze at 50 km in 1935. In 1939, Brodahl won the 18 km cross-country skiing event at the Holmenkollen ski festival. Because of his successes, Brodahl was awarded the Holmenkollen medal in 1939 (shared with Sven Selånger and Lars Bergendahl). Kåre Hatten
Kåre Hatten (22 January 1908 – 14 April 1983) was a Norway, Norwegian cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier. He participated in the 1936 Winter Olympics, where he placed 12th over 50 km. He was a Norwegian champion in the 30 km in 1932, and competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1934, 1934 and FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1934, 1935 World Championships. Hatten was known for his eating and drinking habits in competitions. During one 50 km race he consumed six sandwiches and six cups of gruel. He worked first as a lumberjack, and later as a farmer. Oddbjørn Hagen
Oddbjørn Hagen (3 February 1908 – 25 June 1983) was a Norwegian skier who competed in nordic combined and cross-country skiing. He was both Olympic and World champion. Olympic Games At the 1936 Winter Olympics, Hagen won one gold in the Nordic combined and two silvers in cross-country skiing. The cross-country relay event saw its first Olympic appearance in 1936. Hagen had the first leg, and finished his leg one minute ahead of Finland's Sulo Nurmela, with Sweden's John Berger fifteen seconds further behind. Kalle Jalkanen on the final leg secured Finland the relay victory, six seconds before the Norwegian team. The 18 kilometre cross-country skiing race was also the first part of the Nordic combined. Hagen finished second in the 18 km, behind Sweden's Erik August Larsson, earning him a silver medal. After the ski jumping the next day, he secured the gold medal in the combined. Olaf Hoffsbakken (2 September 1908 – 23 November 1986) was a Norwegian Nordic skier who competed in the 1930s. He won two silver medals at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in both the Nordic combined and the 4 × 10 km relay. In addition, he won a complete set of medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. This included a gold in the Nordic combined (1938), a silver in the 4 × 10 km relay (1935), and a bronze in the 18 km (1935).
