Northwood High School is a public high school located in the northernmost part of Irvine, California, United States, in the Orchard Hills neighborhood. It opened in 1999, and its first graduating class graduated in 2002. In 2016, Northwood was ranked 25 nationally in ''Newsweek''s list of top public high schools. Academics The school operates on an alternating block schedule, in which students attend odd-period classes (1, 3, 5, and 7) on one day, and even-period classes (2, 4, 6, and 8) the following day. Classes are 90 minutes long, and meet for either 18 weeks (semester) or 36 weeks (year-long). On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students attend a tutorial session, which lasts for 35 minutes between the first and second classes of the day, and can be used at the students' discretion. Every Wednesday is designated a "late-start," in which classes start an hour later than the regular schedule. Northwood High School (Northwood) is located in Silver Spring and is one of five high schools that are part of Montgomery Downcounty Consortium. Northwood offers a number of academies for students as well as a variety of sports and clubs. In 2018, Northwood's six academies include Montgomery Middle College (MC2); Music, Theater and Dance; Politics, Advocacy and Law; Technological, Environmental and System Sciences; Humanities, Arts and Media; and Finance, Accounting, Marketing and Education. Northwood originally opened its doors in 1956. The school was closed after 29 years in 1985 due to changing demographics in the area. As the need for additional space for high school students grew in later years, the Montgomery County Public School System re-opened Northwood in 2004. The principal was Mildred Charley-Greene. Northwood High School is located in Pittsboro, Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. The school is the largest of three high schools in Chatham County and is operated by Chatham County Schools. The school's mascot is the Charger and the school colors are gold and green. It is a member of the Big Eight 3A Athletic Conference. It currently serves around 1,024 students. The school receives students primarily from the eastern and northeastern portions of the county, which coincidentally are the fastest growing parts of the county. Northwood High School is a public high school located in Saltville, Virginia. The school serves about 300 students in grades 9 to 12 in the Smyth County Public Schools system. The school operates on a 4x4 block schedule and has many goals in place to improve the achievement of students on Virginia Standards of Learning exams. The school opened in 1957 as R. B. Worthy High School. In 1987, Northwood High School was formed when R. B. Worthy and Rich Valley High Schools were consolidated due to declining enrollment. Minong is a village in Washburn County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 548 at the 2020 census. The village is located within the Town of Minong. History ''Minong'' is a name derived from the Ojibwe language. It is generally translated as "blueberry place" or "good place". ''Minong'' is also the Ojibwe name for Isle Royale. A post office called Minong has been in operation since 1887. The village was laid out in 1888 when the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway constructed a rail line through the area. Josiah Bond and J.J. Hohl and were the principal developers of the village. The snack brand Jack Link's originated in Minong in 1986.
