Northwestern Wildcats Softball
The Northwestern Wildcats softball team is an NCAA Division I college softball team and part of the Big Ten Conference. They play their home games at Sharon J. Drysdale Field in Evanston, Illinois. They have an overall record of 836-629-4. History The program was founded in 1976, posting a 1-6 record, and was coached by Mary Conway. Conway coached for 3 years until Sharon J. Drysdale took the helm in 1979. Drysdale arrived at Northwestern in 1979 and spent the next 23 season building a program that would see 14 winning seasons under her tutelage. By 1984, Drysdale had taken a program still in its infancy and earned a berth to the NCAA championships. They finished a then-program-best third that season, setting a Women's College World Series benchmark that no Big Ten team would surpass for two decades. Kate Drohan
Kate Drohan (born December 24, 1973) is an American softball coach and former collegiate softball player who is the current head coach of the Northwestern Wildcats softball team in the Big Ten Conference. She led Northwestern to the 2006 Women's College World Series and a national runner up finish in 2022. She has mentored athletes Tammy Williams and Eileen Canney. She played college softball for the Providence Friars from 1992 to 1995 in the Big East Conference, where she was a three-time All-Conference honoree. Early life and education Drohan graduated from Providence College in 1995 with a degree biology. She played softball at Providence, where she was on the All-Big East team in 1992, 1994, and 1995. 2007 Women's College World Series
The 2007 NCAA Division I softball tournament was held from May 17 through June 4, 2007. 64 NCAA Division I college softball teams met after having played their way through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament, to play in the NCAA Tournament. Chinazo D. Opia Cunningham (née Opia, born May 17, 1968) is a physician, researcher, and Professor of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. She is also the Director of Diversity Affairs for the Department of Medicine. She worked on the frontlines during the HIV/AIDS crisis in San Francisco and in 2020 began working on the frontlines of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in New York City. She also specializes in treating patients with addiction, overseeing a network using buprenorphine to treat people with opioid addiction. Danielle Lauren Williams is an American college softball player for the Northwestern Wildcats. As a freshman in 2019, she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year. High school career Williams attended Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California where she was a four-time FloSoftball All-American. As a freshman in 2015, she was named East Bay Player of the Year and Cal-Hi Sports' Freshman of the Year. As a senior in 2018, she posted a 21–4 record with a 0.59 ERA and 363 strikeouts in 178 innings. She led Amador to the NCS Division I title in 2018, pitching 28 scoreless innings and giving up just eight hits with six walks and 58 strikeouts in four games. The Northwestern Wildcats are the athletic teams that represent Northwestern University, located in Evanston, Illinois.
