Northwest Passage Drive Expedition
The Northwest Passage Drive Expedition (NWPDX) (2009–2011) was a multi-stage vehicular expedition from the North American mainland to Devon Island in the high Arctic, by way of the Northwest Passage. The expedition was led by planetary scientist Pascal Lee. Although the expedition was primarily logistical and was not intended to be a high fidelity simulation of a crewed pressurized rover traverse on the Moon or Mars, it was the first long-distance road trip dedicated to planetary exploration studies and provided important lessons for planning future long-range vehicular traverses off Earth. The expedition was also the first crossing of the Northwest Passage in a road vehicle. The John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC, originally known as the NASA Launch Operations Center), located on Merritt Island, Florida, is one of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) ten field centers. Since December 1968, KSC has been NASA's primary launch center of human spaceflight. Jean-Christophe Jeauffre (born 26 April 1970) is a French filmmaker, screenwriter and a producer, environmentalist and creator of the Jules Verne International Film Festival. Lead (sea Ice)
A lead (, rhymes with "reed") is a large fracture within an expanse of sea ice, defining a linear area of open water that can be used for navigation purposes. Leads vary in width from meters to hundreds of meters. As is the case for polynyas (another sea ice feature involving open water), leads allow the direct interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean, and are important for Arctic sea ice ecology. Additionally it has been lately found that ice leads contribute significantly to the amount of mercury deposited onto surface and leaked into the ocean. John Schutt
John Schutt (born 1948) is an American mountaineer, geologist, and explorer. He serves as lead field guide for the Antarctic Search for Meteorites (ANSMET) program, and as chief field guide and base manager for the Haughton-Mars Project (HMP). He was a member of the HMP's Northwest Passage Drive Expedition. He has summited Denali fifty times. ANSMET Schutt has served as lead field guide for the annual ANSMET program since 1978, and has participated in over 35 summer field campaigns collecting meteorites in Antarctica. Schutt is believed to have recovered more meteorites than any single person in history, and in particular, more meteorites from the Moon and Mars. A qamutiik ( iu, ᖃᒧᑏᒃ; alternate spellings ''qamutik'' (single sledge runner), ''komatik'', kl, qamutit) is a sled designed to travel on snow and ice, built using traditional Inuit design techniques. Adapted to the Arctic sea ice environment, such sleds are still widely used in the 21st century for travel in Arctic regions. Cornwallis Island is one of the Queen Elizabeth Islands, part of the Arctic Archipelago, in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut in the Canadian Arctic. Resolute Bay
Resolute Bay is an Arctic waterway in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada. It is located in Parry Channel on the southern side of Cornwallis Island. The hamlet of Resolute is located on the northern shore of the bay with Resolute Bay Airport to the northwest. The Inuit associated with Resolute Bay are called ''Qausuittuq'' and the population of the hamlet in the 2006 census was 229.
