Northfield is a former village in the town of Northfield in Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 3,757 at the 2020 census. In 2014, the village and surrounding town of Northfield merged to form a single municipal government; the village and its neighbors Northfield Center and South Northfield are now included in the Northfield census-designated place for population statistics purposes. Jeremiah Ingalls (March 1, 1764 – April 6, 1838) was an early North-list of American composers, American composer, considered a part of the Yankee tunesmiths, First New England School. Biography Jeremiah Ingalls was born in Andover, Massachusetts, in 1764. When he was thirteen, his father, Abijah Ingalls, died of hardships suffered during the American Revolutionary War. In 1791, Ingalls married Mary Bigelow of Westminster, Massachusetts, and while living in Vermont worked variously as a farmer, Cooper (profession), cooper, taverner and choirmaster. Northfield Laboratories Inc. (former NASDAQ: NFLD) was the maker of PolyHeme, a hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier (HBOC). The company was based in Evanston, Illinois, with Dr. Steven A. Gould as its chief executive officer. As of May 31, 2005, the company had 68 employees. It was founded in 1985 and has since been a mainly research and development company. Northfield's only product was PolyHeme, an oxygen-carrying blood substitute, which failed to receive Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory approval.
