Northfield, Birmingham
Northfield is a residential area in outer south Birmingham, England, and near the boundary with Worcestershire. It is also a council constituency, managed by its own district committee. The constituency includes the wards of Kings Norton, Longbridge, Weoley Castle and the smaller ward of Northfield that includes West Heath and Turves Green. Northfield is a city in Dakota and Rice counties in the State of Minnesota. It is mostly in Rice County, with a small portion in Dakota County. The population was 20,790 at the 2020 census. History Northfield was platted in 1856 by John W. North. Local legend says that the town was named for John North and a Mr. Field. North, realizing that the town straddled the proposed northern border of Rice county, went to the state capital to lobby to move the border one mile north. Northfield was founded by settlers from New England known as "Yankees" as part of New England's colonization of what was then the far west. It was an early agricultural center with many wheat and corn farms. The town also supported lumber and flour mills powered by the Cannon River. History European settlers first arrived in Northfield in the early 1700s. Initially, Northfield was incorporated as part of Canterbury, New Hampshire, Canterbury when that town was established in 1741. Northfield Mount Hermon School, often called NMH, is a co-educational preparatory school in Gill, Massachusetts, in the United States. It is a member of the Eight Schools Association. Present day NMH offers nearly 200 courses, including AP and honors classes in every discipline. Every semester, students take three major courses, each 70 minutes long, as opposed to five 50-minute classes which are more typical of high schools. Northfield is the central village and a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Northfield, Washington County, Vermont, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 3,757, out of 5,918 in the entire town. The former village of Northfield merged with the surrounding town of Northfield in 2014; the current CDP includes the former village as well as the unincorporated villages of Northfield Center and South Northfield. Northfield is an unincorporated village in the town of Litchfield, Litchfield County, Connecticut. The village of Northfield resides in the southeastern corner of Litchfield.
