Northern Pacific Railway
The Northern Pacific Railway was a transcontinental railroad that operated across the northern tier of the western United States, from Minnesota to the Pacific Northwest. It was approved by Congress in 1864 and given nearly of land grants, which it used to raise money in Europe for construction. Construction began in 1870 and the main line opened all the way from the Great Lakes to the Pacific when former President Ulysses S. Grant drove in the final "golden spike" in western Montana on September 8, 1883. The railroad had about of track and served a large area, including extensive trackage in the states of Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. In addition, the NP had an international branch to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The main activities were shipping wheat and other farm products, cattle, timber, and minerals; bringing in consumer goods, transporting passengers; and selling land. Northern Pacific Airways
Northern Pacific Airways is an upcoming low-cost airline based in Anchorage, Alaska, United States, that plans to commence operations in Spring 2023. History The airline also operates inside Alaska under the brand and is the same company as Ravn Alaska. Ravn Connect is a separate company but also a subsidiary of FLOAT Alaska. The airline plans to operate transpacific flights between North America and Asia, with a stopover at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. The airline's business model has been compared to that of Icelandair. Northern Pacific will allow passengers to either quickly connect to their next flight, or to have a longer multi-day stopover at Anchorage to allow passengers to sightsee in Alaska. Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference
The Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac) was an NCAA Division I conference that only sponsored women’s field hockey. Founded in 1982, it began as a California-based conference, but expanded over time to include schools across the United States. Over time, most of the NorPac's eastern schools left the conference for various reasons. The conference played its last season in 2014 and formally disbanded at the end of the 2014–15 school year. The four founding members, all from California, became single-sport members of the America East Conference. The two remaining eastern schools, Appalachian State and Liberty, became Division I field hockey independents. Both would join conferences in the coming years; Liberty became a single-sport member of the Big East Conference in 2016, and Appalachian State became a single-sport member of the Mid-American Conference in 2017. Northern Pacific Hockey League
The Northern Pacific Hockey League (NPHL) was an American Tier III junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey. Its championship trophy was the Cascade Cup. History Established in 2000 as the NorPac Junior Hockey League, the league was sanctioned as Junior B by USA Hockey. Six teams from Alaska, Oregon, Washington and the Yukon Territory competed in the inaugural season of 2000–01. In 2007, the NorPac was promoted to Tier III Junior A by USA Hockey. In 2011, USA Hockey dropped the letter designation in Tier III and had all Tier III compete in the same national tournament. In 2013, NorPac changed its abbreviated moniker to NPHL. The league announced three new members to start the 2014–15 season: Cheney Ice Hawks, Tacoma Knights and Wenatchee Wolves.
