Northern Hearts AFC
Northern Hearts is an association football club based in Timaru, New Zealand. The club was founded in 1947 and from 1982 to 1990 was amalgamated with Timaru City as South Canterbury United. It reverted to Northern Hearts in 1991. Northern Hearts competed in the various Southern Premier leagues from 1971 to the mid-2000s. The club's best end-of-season position came in 2001, when they finished as runners-up in the premiership. Timaru (; mi, Te Tihi-o-Maru) is a port city in the southern Canterbury Region of New Zealand, located southwest of Christchurch and about northeast of Dunedin on the eastern Pacific coast of the South Island. The Southern Football Premier League (known as the ODT Southern Men's Premier League for sponsorship reasons) is a New Zealand association football league competition administered bSouthern Footballinvolving clubs from the lower half of the South Island of New Zealand. Five of the clubs are from Dunedin and one each are from Wanaka, Queenstown, Mosgiel, Timaru, and Invercargill. The league has also previously included an Otago youth development team. Until 2009, the league was known as the SoccerSouth Premier League. South Canterbury United
South Canterbury United was a football team from New Zealand. The team was initially formed in 1982 as a composite side containing players from Timaru City and Northern Hearts. Northern Hearts left the amalgamation in 1991, returning to their former name; Timaru City did the same in 1996. United continued as a separate side until 2008 before folding. The Chatham Cup is New Zealand's premier knockout tournament in men's association football. It is held annually, with the final contested in September. The current champions of the Chatham Cup are 2022 winners Auckland City, who defeated Eastern Suburbs 1–0 in the final. The 1947 Chatham Cup was the 20th annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. The competition was run on a regional basis, with regional associations each holding separate qualifying rounds. Teams taking part in the final rounds are known to have included North Shore United (Auckland), Waterside (Wellington) Wanganui Technical Old Boys (Whanganui), St. Andrews (Manawatu), Technical Old Boys (Christchurch), Northern Hearts (Timaru), Mosgiel (Dunedin) and Invercargill Thistle (Southland). 1980 Chatham Cup
The 1980 Chatham Cup was the 53rd annual nationwide knockout football competition in New Zealand. Early stages of the competition were run in three regions (northern, central, and southern), with the National League teams receiving a bye until the Fourth Round of the competition. In all, 93 teams took part in the competition. Note: Different sources give different numberings for the rounds of the competition: some start round one with the beginning of the regional qualifications; others start numbering from the first national knock-out stage.
