Northeast Constituency
Northeast ( is, Norðaustur) is one of the six multi-member constituencies of the Althing, the national legislature of Iceland. The constituency was established as Northeastern ( is, Norðurland eystra) in 1959 following the nationwide extension of proportional representation for elections to the Althing. It was renamed Northeast in 2003 when most of the Eastern constituency was merged into the Northeastern constituency following the re-organisation of constituencies across Iceland. Northeast consists of the regions of Eastern and Northeastern. The constituency currently elects nine of the 63 members of the Althing using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. At the 2021 parliamentary election it had 29,847 registered electors. Jakob Frímann Magnússon
Jakob Frímann Magnússon (born 4 May 1953) is a Danish-born Icelandic composer, keyboard player, film director and producer. In Iceland he is best known as the keyboardist and one of the founders of the multiartistic band Stuðmenn, with which he has so far produced 16 albums as of 2017. He has also directed, produced and starred in several films, and released several solo albums with a number of famous jazz musicians from the United States. For a period of the 1990s he was the cultural attaché of the Icelandic embassy in London. Since 2002, aside from playing in Stuðmenn and recording new albums, Jakob Frímann is the co-owner and manager of the advertisement agency Bankastræti in Reykjavík. Jakob studied music in California between 1977 and 1980. The Progressive Party ( is, Framsóknarflokkurinn, FSF) is an agrarian political party in Iceland. For most of its history, the Progressive Party has governed with the Independence Party. The Independence Party ( is, Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn) is a Liberal conservatism, liberal-conservative List of political parties in Iceland, political party in Iceland. Eastern Region ( is, Austurland ) is a region in eastern Iceland. Its area is and in 2020 its population was 13,173. The Eastern Regions has a jagged coastline of fjords, referred to as the Eastfjords ( ). The largest town in the region is Egilsstaðir, with a population of 2,300.
