North Western Football Union
The North West Football Union (NWFU) was an Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 to 1986. In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League and Northern Tasmanian Football Association representing the rest of the state. Burnie, Latrobe and Ulverstone were the most successful clubs with 12 premierships each. The league disbanded after the 1986 season after major clubs such as Cooee and Devonport defected to the TFL Statewide League. In 1987 the NWFU effectively merged with the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) to form the Northern Tasmanian Football League, which exists today as the North West Football League. The Penguin Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Penguin, Tasmania. It was founded in 1890. Graeme Shephard
Graeme Shephard (born 8 March 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1970s. Shephard, a Cooee 'best and fairest' winner in 1969, had his first stint at Collingwood in 1970 but returned to Tasmania the following season. He won his second 'best and fairest' in 1973 and played in Cooee's premiership team that year. A rover who could play as a centreman, Shephard also won the Wander Medal in 1973, the North West Football Union's top individual award. Back in Collingwood colours, he participated in VFL finals series in 1974 and 1975. He was a member of another NWFU premiership team with Cooee in 1978, after coaching the club the previous year. John Jillard
John Jillard (28 March 1941 – 28 December 1998) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Footscray Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Latrobe Football Club in the North West Football Union The North West Football Union (NWFU) was an Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 to 1986. In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League and Northern Tasmanian Football As ... (NWFU). He was a half back flanker and won the Charles Sutton Medal for Footscray's Best and Fairest in 1967. Brian Gordon "Mousey" Waters (born 18 April 1944) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in Tasmania during the 1960s and 1970s. In 1968 he won the Wander Medal, the North Western Football Union (NWFU) best and fairest award. Early career Waters debuted with East Launceston against Longford in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) on 19 May 1962 and played most of his career in the centre or wing positions. Wally Clark (Australian Footballer)
Wally Clark (born 25 May 1936) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fitzroy Clark, who was at Fitzroy from underage level, played as a rover. He was their top goal-kicker with 21 goals in 1962 but had his best goal kicking year when he bagged 33 two years earlier. Although he retired from the seniors in 1963, Clark continued in the Fitzroy reserves as captain-coach and won a Gardiner Medal for his on field performances. Darrel Baldock
Darrel John Baldock AM (29 September 1938 – 2 February 2011) was an Australian sportsman and state politician. He played Australian rules football for the St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), East Devonport Football Club and Latrobe Football Club in the North West Football Union (NWFU), and New Norfolk Football Club in the Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL). He was also a handy cricketer, successful racehorse trainer and served in the Tasmanian House of Assembly. Arthur Edward Clarence Hodgson (8 January 1926 – 12 May 2003) was an Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and North Western Football Union (NWFU). Ray Stokes
Raymond Gordon "Ray" Stokes (21 May 1924 – 26 February 2017) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was born in Longford. After making his debut for Richmond in the 1946 season, Stokes went on to play with the club for six years. He played in the midfield, as either a centreman or on the wing. Stokes had been recruited from Burnie in Tasmania and he returned there after leaving Richmond and became their coach. He represented the Tasmanian interstate side at the 1953 Adelaide and 1956 Perth carnivals. Stokes was also a cricketer and played first-class cricket for Tasmania. A left-handed batsman, he played nine first-class matches in total, scoring 323 runs at 24.84 with a highest score of 83. He was the older brother of Richmond footballer Jervis Stokes.
