North Smithfield High School (known previously as North Smithfield Junior-Senior High School) is a high school in the Primrose section of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, USA (in Providence County). It is the only public high school in the town and was ranked 12th out of 51 public high schools in Rhode Island in 2022. The current principal is Amy L. Burns. History The current high school was constructed in 1966 although local students had received private high school level instruction within the town since colonial times. During the American Revolution (1775–1783), one of North Smithfield's first recorded schools was founded in the home of Elisha Thornton near modern-day Slatersville. In the 1800s many local students attended the private Bushee Academy (Smithfield Union Village Academy) in Union Village. North Smithfield is a town in Providence County, Rhode Island, United States, settled as a farming community in 1666 and incorporated into its present form in 1871. North Smithfield includes the historic villages of Forestdale, Primrose, Waterford, Branch Village, Union Village, Park Square, and Slatersville. The population was 12,588 at the 2020 census. Union Village or "Bank Village" is a village and historic district located in North Smithfield and Woonsocket, Rhode Island on Rhode Island Route 146A. Union Village developed because it was at the cross roads of old Great Road ( Smithfield Road Historic District) (connecting Providence and Worcester, Massachusetts) and Pound Hill Road (connecting the Blackstone River falls to Chepachet and Connecticut). History Union Village was originally named Bank Village, and was the site of the first bank in northern Rhode Island, in 1805. Linda Cimino is an American basketball coach and former player. She was the final women's basketball head coach at St. Francis College from 2018–23. Cimino was born in Lincoln, Rhode Island and is an alumnus of North Smithfield High School and Adelphi University. Classical High School, founded in 1843, is a public magnet school in the Providence School District, in Providence, Rhode Island. It was originally an all-male school but has since become co-ed.
