North Sheen
North Sheen is an area of London, England in the former Municipal Borough of Richmond (Surrey).North Sheen was one of six wards in the Municipal Borough of Richmond (Surrey). It was incorporated into Kew in 1965 when the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames was created. Although North Sheen no longer officially exists as a place name, it survives as the name of a station. Being south of the A316 road, the station is in Richmond rather than Kew, and so was not actually in North Sheen. Richmond Park is a parliamentary constituency in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Sarah Olney of the Liberal Democrats won the seat at a by-election in 2016 after Zac Goldsmith of the Conservative Party stood down in protest over expansion of Heathrow Airport. Goldsmith stood as an independent at the by-election, but the Conservative nomination was restored to him for the 2017 general election, at which he regained the seat with a slim majority. Olney won the seat from Goldsmith a second time at the 2019 general election. East Sheen
East Sheen, also known as Sheen, is a suburb in south-west London in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Its long high street has shops, offices, restaurants, cafés, pubs and suburban supermarkets and is also the economic hub for Mortlake of which East Sheen was once a manor. This commercial thoroughfare, well served by public transport, is the Upper Richmond Road West which connects Richmond to Putney. Central to this street is ''The Triangle'', a traffic island with a war memorial and an old milestone dating from 1751, marking the distance to Cornhill in the City of London. North Sheen Railway Station
North Sheen railway station is in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, in southwest London, and is in Travelcard Zone 3. The station, on the eastern edge of Richmond, is named after the North Sheen area which, in 1965, was absorbed by Kew. It is down the line from . It was opened by the Southern Railway on 6 July 1930. The station and all trains serving it are now operated by South Western Railway. North Sheen station serves the area between Mortlake and Richmond stations on the South Western Railway main line rail service. Footbridge North Sheen station is just off Manor Road, where there is a level crossing. Originally, the railway was planned to run through a narrow cutting, allowing Green Lane (as Manor Road was then called) to be carried over the railway by a road bridge. The Barn Church, Kew
The Barn Church, Kew, formally known as St Philip and All Saints, is the first barn church to be consecrated in England. The building, which is not listed, is on the corner of Atwood Avenue and Marksbury Avenue, in an area previously known as North Sheen and now in Kew, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It was constructed in 1929 from a 17th (or possibly 16th) century barn from Oxted in Surrey. The west end was converted in 2002 into a large parish room with a gallery above looking down the length of the building. The sanctuary was refurbished and remodelled in 1998. St Philip and All Saints is part of a joint parish with St Luke's Church, Kew, under the same vicar, Rev Dr Melanie Harrington, who took up the role in June 2021. It is a member of the Anglican Communion and Church of England and, locally, is part of Churches Together in Kew. Municipal Borough Of Barnes
Barnes was a local government district in north west Surrey from 1894 to 1965, when its former area was absorbed into the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. History Barnes was formed as an urban district in 1894 and became a municipal borough in 1932. It contained the settlements of Barnes, Mortlake and East Sheen. It was part of the London postal district and Metropolitan Police District. The district was bounded by the County of London to the east, the River Thames and Middlesex to the north, and the Municipal Borough of Richmond to the west and south. The council met at 123 Mortlake High Street from 1895 until 1940, when the building was damaged by wartime bombing. After the war the council met at the Penryn Rooms in East Sheen. The Local Government Act 1894 (56 & 57 Vict. c. 73) was an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that reformed local government in England and Wales outside the County of London.
